My understanding is the 2012 model adds a handle height adjustment, one of the small complaints that some have had with the current version, but otherwise they're identical.    I tried the old model out in the store and found the handle height was just fine with me, so I took advantage of the closeout pricing and bought a 2011 model.    And the old model also comes with the little backpack as well so apparently that isn't a new addition - just handle height.
