Ha, good question. Rain suits are, as most things in golf, ridiculously expensive.

I've got FootJoy pants and some FootJoy, Mizuno, and Adidas tops. They all work for different temperatures, moods, etc. Zero Restriction is good, of course, too. You get what you pay for...

For more serious rain gear then what the golf stores sell for "sun showers" go to REI  or similar outdoors supply store. If that isn't robust enough try West Marine. Both are expensive but far higher quality.

I'm looking for grips that work well soaking wet. (Winn Lites are ok, but there must be better)  Forget wiping them down with a towel, that's soaked too. Everything's soaked but me.

I'm a big fan of the Zero Restriction line.  If you buy it retail, it is expensive, but if you don't need it right away and can be patient, The Golf Warehouse will put it on sale and you can get if for less than 50% off.  I have a wind resistant vest, short sleeve rain top, rain pants, wind resistant pullover and a rain coat and I paid less than 50% of the retail cost on all of them and a couple of them 75%.  Also check out eBay, they have some very good deals on ZR clothing.

I find "rain gloves" (i use the footjoys) essential when it's wet.  The material really does offer a quite good grip on rainy days...they're better than when dry actually.  They're not good for cold though...almost like the material keeps the cold/wetness locked next to your hands.

I like ZR jackets and SM rainflex pants

ZR - Zero Restriction

SM - Sun Mountain

I found a consistent source on ebay for ZR; you can normally find SM on the bay, too.

I bought a golf rain suit from Dick's Sporting Goods (by Tommy Armour). I have been using it for two month's. It cost a total of $54 for the top and bottom (yes they are sold as a set). I advise you to go into the store wearing your normal golf gear (pants preferred) and then put the rain suit on and make sure it still fits loosely. I have played in pouring rain and have not gotten wet, even when I sit on a wet cart seat or bench on the course. I comes with a hide-away hood.

    • By today’s standards that’s certainly true, but they weren’t having any trouble hitting golf balls in 2005 so I’ve equipped myself with what was among the very best equipment around that time for a very reasonable investment. If I get to the point where I feel like I’ve outgrown that stuff, I’ll reward myself with something more current. But for now I don’t need adjustable loft and lie and modern head shape, just a good quality, proven club with a clean club face. For now I’m going to concentrate on the basics. I know you can get more yardage with newer woods, but I don’t care about distance nearly as much as consistency, and you can’t buy that for any price.
