The 8620s are made of a harder, more durable steel so they won't ding or scratch as easily as the 1018s. However, they will work just as well as the 1018 wedges, you will really only notice a difference in feel on full swings with little turf interaction.

i like the look of the 8620s alot more as well...id like a wedge that has a solid amount of life to it in terms of wear. I was not aware however that CNC produced wedges are actually stronger than forged. (or at least by scratch standards) I want to get a good set because im considering going south in order to take the game seriously and wasn't sure if i wanted a highly expensive wedge such as the 1018 forged. but im also considering getting the 8620s in a specific shaft which would just make them more expensive. (my irons have nippon 950gh in them which scratch offers for $30) is there any importance involving consistency between your irons and your wedges?

i was also told that tour pros will actually use a softer flex for there wedges in order to swing slower and more controlled for better contact while not sacrificing distance. (ex. irons are x-stiff vs. wedges made stiff) ive considered doing there r300 for no extra cash which would play a bit heavier (about 20+ grams) than my 950s only because it would probly play a bit stiffer than the 950s but still soft enough to not lose distance.

any insight on my confusion? cause im not sure if shops actually fit wedge shafts...

which im starting to think they should with all the options...especially shaft options that are wedge specific (DG spinner/Nippon 950 wv) while normal iron shafts like s300s and project x shafts are being put into them as well. is there really that much difference?

8620 steel is harder than 1018 - and will give you more life.

As to wedge shafts - I'd say you're not going for distance -- you're going for control. Heavier is usually better for accuracy/control.

See if Scratch gives you the KBS for no additional charge - you might check out the PGA Tour Superstore Online or call the Frisco Store for the 8620 Scratch - I think they have the nonconforming on sale - but that was a few months ago - but I think they're getting rid of some stock -- think they were $69. I bet they would ship.

in terms of shaft  gram weight. what are you using in your wedges in comparison to your irons? i notice wedge swing weights tend to be a little heavier and im just trying to ensure i have the proper one in comparison to the shaft i have.

i swung a ping s56 9 iron the other day with a kbs and it felt really really good. probly shouldve made note of what it was in terms of weight and flex cause it played slightly heavier than my nippon 950s but im not sure if that was simply the flex making it feel that way. it felt stiff. i know the the TTDG shaft is a relatively common stock option and scratch even offers "SST puring" which i know makes things more consistent and feel better but im not sure how important it really is? i like the ones i have now...they feel very smooth in my FGs but noticeably lighter considering they are 95gram regular flex shafts. probably could go with a stiff in that same shaft but might as well get the most out of what i have. and of course lastly there is the project X shafts which ive heard are really harsh and considering wedges are more solid than soft like forged irons, im not sure id ever try them. the rifle shaft seems comparable to say a TTDG being traditional with newer advantages like slightly lighter gram weight compared to the DG but much heavier than the PX which weigh in at as little as 65 grams. (which could be the reason they feel soo "harsh" to players who have reviewed them. must only feel good when well struck. which makes sense for a tour player like wozzilroy haha)

Nippon now has wedge shafts -- a little heavier -- and they are nice -- in 105g, 115g, and 125g.

im going to have to consider that shaft probly 115 will play nicely in stiff but i might consider 125 in reg. not sure how each will play but im looking forward to anything newer than what i have.

I received this in the mail not too long ago. Total shock. Was a gift from a friend and I had nothing to do with the stampings, colors or designs. "Rossmoyne" is the town I was born and raised in. I have recently shafted it with a PX 6.0HL and it's seems like a decent enough wedge, but I absolutely love my Sonartec t46 East Coast wedges. • Day 185 - 2025-04-03 Had a good 2.5 hour session at Golf Evolution. Kinda glad it was still wet and windy out today as I wouldn't have gotten such a good session in if I played. Got up to 93 MPH (with a pause) on my 6I and 130 MPH ball speed (on a different slightly slower hit, a bit more de-lofted than I'll want eventually).
    • I'm highly probable for the entire weekend, thanks for doing the hard work to set it up.  I can't wait for more details.
    • I take 2nd, is a confirmation that you can eventually win your major and also is good material for having a laugh about it in the distant future.
    • I'm a relatively new golfer (<5 years) in my mid-thirties. So far I've spent most of my time and money on lessons and actually golfing. I'm currently a 90s-100s player, but hope to break into the 80s with lessons and practice. I'm definitely not of the mindset that flashy expensive clubs will help me play better...I try to make the assumption that my equipment is more capable than I am. That said, I do know that realistically that threshold does exist somewhere. I just have no idea where. At what point should I consider an upgrade from starter clubs to something I can grow into and improve with?  My stuff: Starter set (Callaway Strata) from Amazon. (3w, 5h, 9i-PW) Gently used Cleveland Wedges (LW, SW, GW) - My old ones were from a set from the late 90s, so I did upgrade these. Gently used TaylorMade M1 driver - The starter set driver had a regular flex, and I had several knowledgeable people tell me I should have a stiff flex Thanks in advance!
    • Looking forward to this movie, it checks all the boxes for me. Indie Movie True Story Cast is all great character actors Walton Goggins! No Whammies!!!!!!!!!
