Will 11 bounce on my 56° Vokey SM provide good versatility from faiway and rough?

Bounce is a bit of a personal thing. It depends how you use those lofted wedges. I think 11 degrees, for me, would be pushing the boundaries from a lie in the fairway, unless it was really soft ground. Would be ok out of the rough as you can easily make contact with the ball before the ground. When it comes to tight lies, you will struggle, I think so anyway. My 58 had 10 degrees and it was pretty useless to me off tight lies around the green, and even shots inside 50 off the fairway were sometimes iffy. I took to it with a bench grinder and then refinished it nice and smooth with a belt. I did this a few times before I got it just right. Needless to say, its a hard club to use out if very soft sand, but I can pinch the ball off any lie now with heaps of spin. Even if I need to take a small divot, I know the leading edge is going to dig in and not bounce off the ground and belly the ball. Figuring out your wedges can be difficult and expensive. After your PW, you need a GW with low bounce, a 56 with decent bounce for the bunker, then a 58 or 60 with low bounce (although, I think 2/3 people who have a 60 shouldnt). Learn to hit the gap wedge from any distance inside its maximum, leave the 56 for the sand, and only use the lob for those tricky "no green to work with" shots.

Excellent advice from mymizunosrock.

I game 50.08, 54.11 and 58.08 Vokeys. I absolutely love the bounce on my 50 and it's my go-to club for pitching most of the time. The 54 tends to blade the ball too much for me from good lies (or I open the face and get too much side-spin) so it's primarily used for rough/powdery sand shots. The 58 you'd think also would be good for me based on how well I hit my 50 but nope, it too tends to be bladed on occasion so I'll be getting the bounce on that trimmed to either an 06 or an 04.

Looking at the Vokey website it seems I'm more or a "slider" now. When I bought them I went for "either" bounces to give me choice.

Agreement with you from the November issue of Golf Digest . A survey of tour pros show that 60% have a 60-degree wedge or higher. For a good number 58* or lower is the greatest loft.

As for wedge mix, it depends on how much you play and what courses you face. You might have a 56.11 for harder sand, and a 56.14 for softer sand.

The courses I hace tight fairways and somewhat moist to soft lies. I dont care about bunker play with my Vokey, I have another wedge for that. Give me the facts for fairways and rough based on the conditions I stated. Thank you :)

I personally prefer a little more bounce in moist conditions.  How much bounce you can get away with depends a lot on your swing.  If you are a "slider" and pick the ball clean, you can get away with less bounce.  That is not to say that you couldn't use more bounce, but on a hard lie you might be risking a bounced in thin shot.  I don't think 11* is too much for a Vokey as I find their bounces and grinds to be pretty versatile.  Although I am a digger with my wedges, I rarely had trouble with my old low bounce 60.04 except in the slop.

Other factors in the bounce of a wedge are the grind shape and the thickness of the sole.  My 58.12 with a "C" grind, according to the website, has an effective bounce of 10*.  I have also had cavity backed wedges with 8* of bounce that could pop it out of the wettest sand with a clean pick.  This was because the sole was so thick from front to back, even though the bounce angle was minimal.  With a Vokey however, I'd say use as much bounce as you possibly can.

    • Ok, I'm trying to find a feel to hit a consistent ball flight (irons).  My current predicament.  1. I try to do the arms down stuff better, with the club feeling like it is way behind me more. It's just a cluster of results. Most of the time, I can't get any speed on the swing. If I get my arms down faster, I just throw them out.  2. I focus all my attention on turning better. Pushing off with my left leg and getting my right side through better. On the DTL view, this doesn't produce anywhere close where the hands and club should be. The result is usually ball first contact, lower ball flight, more centered contact.  At this point, I am going with option 2. Stop thinking about what the hands do. Just make a shorter backswing, keep it wide, turn through. Somehow, the club head finds the ball. My focus is so much on just making sure I turn, it's like, "Oh, that contact was better.... Oh, that bell flight looks playable." If not, I will just be practicing my entire summer.
    • Nope, they spent too much money. They are in over 28 million on the football roster and related NIL compensation at this point. Boosters associated with any Texas college football team has HUGE sway. The AD is between a rock and a hard place. They put a lot of money into Sorsby, at the chance of winning a NC this year. If you move on, you basically wasted a lot.  This is why Ohio State wants 3 QB's they feel can start. That is why the backups the past 5 years at some point transfer. Texas Tech has no backup near the quality of Sorsby. If they move on, they are screwed for 2026.
    • Maybe there's something I still don't understand about the situation. Wouldn't Texas Tech do itself a favor to move on from Sorsby at this point?
    • Day 281 6-10 Full swing, fast, getting low point ahead of "towel".  Working on flow during this seems to help.
