Hello. Let me set the scene. 160 yrd par 3, 14th. I placed the ball on tee. Went through my normal routine and hit the shot. As soon as it come of the club my friend said "that's in the hole". And guess what? He was right! Well, for a split second he was right. What had happend was the ball had pitched 2 ft from the hole, took one bounce in and bouced out. I knew this becuase as I was walked on to the green to tap in my 2 in birdie putt the 3 greenkeepers relaxing under a tree by the green and the old coulpe who had waited for us to play through proceeded in telling me exactly what had happend. They then proceeded in telling me that "IF" the ball had of stayed in the holeI I was intitled to 1 years free membership, and this course isn't cheap. To be honest, I would of prefered it if they had of kept that to themselves!!

Anyway, as I have only been playing golf for a year, I have never heard of this happening. So I have a few questions:

1.  Has anyone else heard of this happening?

2.  Has anyone else ever had this happen to them?

3.  Does anyone know the reason why this happens?

4.  Am I the unluckiest golfer on the planet?

First off, did you make the putt?
1.  Has anyone else heard of this happening? 2.  Has anyone else ever had this happen to them? 3.  Does anyone know the reason why this happens? 4.  Am I the unluckiest golfer on the planet?
1) Yes, but not the free membership part. 2) Nope. 3) The cup is plastic and metal (from the flagstick). If a golf ball hits that hard enough, it could bounce out. 4) Yes.

I have hit the flag stick before, ended up a few feet from the hole. I have seen someone hit the flag on the flag stick and the ball drops nearly straight down into the hole. Its strange. You see pro's hit bounce ins, but i still think the best way is for the ball to be rolling. So, either back it up, or let it release a bit..

It would have been a cool hole in one, 160 yards is no slouch distance for Ams.

Yea, the membership part was nice, i think i wouldn't want to have known

I hit the flag stick from 175 yards before. We saw it head towards the flag heard it hit, and then couldnt see the ball. We walked all the way there saying no one will believe it was a hole in one, when we got there it had bounced off the flag and was sat in a recess on the green.

Maybe next time.

Not exactly, but close.  125 yard, downhill par 3.  I hit a perfect, high, straight gap wedge.  It was one of those where you hold your swing and pose because you know it is good.  As opposed to bouncing, like yours did, mine landed in the hole-- almost.  The ball hit the top of the plastic cup, about 2 inches down in the hole-- we could HEAR the ball hit the cup from the tee box.  The ball flew straight up about 20-25 feet and landed about 30 feet from the hole, on the fringe.  I two putted for par, which is never bad, but a 1 would have been much better.

Yes mate, I know them shots. I usually throw in a little club twirl to finish. My mates say I over do it. I say it's GOTTA BE DONE!!
