Water ball? How about a woods ball or an OB ball, or a cart path ball? Play your best always.

I usually play whatever ball I have in my pocket. I only carry the one I am playing with at the time. If I hit it in the water, I dig another one out of my bag and curse my luck and go up to the drop area. I have noticed that if I happen to be playing with an old, scuffed ball that I am using in a practice round, they are hydrophobic and emit a beeping noise whenever they are lost in the rough. However, if you dig out a brand new Pro-V1, be sure and kiss it goodbye, because it is going to make a break for it at the first opportunity.

Unless your ball needs to be taken out of play, switching balls because there's water between you and the hole is against the rules. Not only that but it's just bad psychology - you're basically saying to yourself that you're going to hit it in the water...

Spot on seattlemudder! Which is probably the main reason you'll have a water ball to start with....it then becomes a vicious circle! Golf's 90% between the ears remember

I only pay $25/dozen for the balls I play, so no - I don't bother with a 'water ball'. I'm not sure I like the logic of it. It seems to allow negative swing thoughts to creep into your mind at the absolute worst time.

I'm so new to the game that I expect to lose a few per round. Therefore they are all water balls in my book.
That's why I use Nike Juice balls. Less than $20.00 per dozen. I don't mind losing them at that price.

I never hit a water ball. Just pointless. Usually, on most courses, only a bad shot brings the water into play. Thats just my experience.

    • It's likely per "category" of clubs, so irons would be one category, wedges would be a category, driver a category, fairway woods/hybrid a category, etc. They aren't going to charge you $50 per iron for a fitting. Almost all iron fittings are done with like a 6 or 7 iron, fitters don't carry full sets of every iron. So yes, if you use a 7 iron for the fitting and let's say you get fit into the P790 with a certain shaft, 1 degree flat and .5" longer than normal you would just order the full set of P790s with that shaft/lie angle/length combination and you'll be perfectly fine.
    • I think the $50 fitting price tag is per club. The clubs I am most interested in getting fitted for are irons. And I'd rather not spend a bunch on getting fitted for multiple irons. Would I be fairly safe to assume that choosing something like a 6 or 7 iron for fitting would likely relate to other lofts in the same configuration/make/model?
    • A Mevo is 500. Comes with little decals to hit balls inside too.
    • I replaced a 3 driving iron as it was called. If I hit it clean it went close to 180 like the hybrid does but it was very inconsistent. I had to aim left because it would fade and I could never hit it dead nuts straight. We have a lot of wind being by the ocean so a left to right wind was suicidal with that club for me. I don't have a lot of Shot Scope data so far that would show yardage as far as dispersion or proximity to hole goes, but so far everything is staying relatively tight. I am not spraying the ball, I feel like it goes where I aim, any thing off is user error and not the club.
    • Ok, great. Best of luck to you in the future. I gave you the answer for significantly less than $20k though, just sayin.
