Clubs: My concern is that if I get fitted for a set of clubs with my current swing, it may need to be altered in the future.  Will these clubs still be okay to use with a slightly different swing?

Lessons: Or if I take the lessons first with my current clubs (bought used at a pro shop and cut 1/2 longer than standard) will my shots be the result of improper club fit or mechanical error?  How will I really know unless I have the proper fit first?

Am I over analyzing?

Thanks for any help!

Take a lesson on posture, or go to a clubfitter that can get you into a proper address position and get the right clubs for you.  My advice is to err on the side of too light heads, too flexible shafts, and too small grips.  As you improve you can tweak them if needed.  Once you learn to properly feel and maintain the load on the shaft, you can go stiffer.  The flexibility in the shaft is nice when starting out to help you feel the load.  Don't go too heavy in the heads, too stiff in the shaft, and too big with the grip.  You'll just struggle and get frustrated.

Lessons first. Find an instructor that you like and trust and get his/her opinion about club lie, length that will fit the swing you both agree you are working toward. Once you have that pro, buy the clubs. Until you find your pro, you are just guessing at the clubs that will fit your improved swing.

If you are near a 10 handicap, you are likely to be close to the correct setup now. If you intend to pick a pro that teaches your current setup, you may be able to buy clubs before you select a pro. But I think you're better off choosing a pro who will help get you into clubs that are the right fit for you.
