I doubt this would be an issue, but it is something i think about every time i put my clubs in our out of my trunk.

Make sure you have room where you store your clubs and don't let the driver head lean on the side of your trunk and take the pressure of the entire bag.

Like i said i doubt this could be a problem but i am anal with my clubs and i make sure i don't somehow break them when i have them in my trunk...

I have had a similar thing happen to me. I have a Ping G15 driver. I was playing a round and about two hole in I noticed the shaft coming out of hosel. So I stopped playing with it. Later that day took the club to Golf Smith (where I got it). I young kid told me it would be ready the following day. The next day I got picked up the club, and he said wait 24 hours befor using. This was a sunday. I had golf league on Monday after work. When we started, I was hesitant about using it. Once I got over it and grabed it, the first swing.....The shaft snapped at the hosel and club head bounced dond the gravel cart path. I was mad. I returned to golf smith that night and talked to the Manager in the club fitting department. He looked at the club and told me to pick a new shaft. I watch him fix my club in 15 minutes. I have yet to have any problems with it, and he is the only person I will let touch my clubs there. So just goes to show, it can come down to the quality of work (as stated before). As long as it is dont correctly, then it will last. No worries.

I wish I had a guy like that. I mean there's only one guy I kind of know, that works at the driving range I go to all the time. Problem is I buy my clubs at Golfsmith or online or something, so usually I take it to them. I use him when I can, and he's pretty good, but I need to find a guy at golfsmith.

And as for west's reply, I definitely make sure to not have my driver resting on the side of my trunk, I am extremely cautious also haha.


From what I've been told by some guys I know that work at golf stores, manufacturer's view shaft breakages near or at the hosel as being caused by defective material or installation and will warrant the repair at no-cost.  However, breakages in the middle of the shaft are viewed as being caused by user-abuse, so they will not offer a warranted no-cost repair.

Wow where do your friends work? Because mine literally broke at the very bottom of the shaft, both times, and the guys at the store had no question it was my fault.


The Golf Mart, northern California.  And, while I'm not 100% sure because it's been a few years, Golfsmith either fixed or sent the clubs back to the manufacturer to be fixed when two of my buds broke their driver shafts (Titleist and Taylor Made) near the hosel.  I may be wrong about the retailer, but they were definitely fixed for free.  Nonetheless, if you're getting "static" from the retailer about repairs, call the manufacturer and work directly with them.  Be sure you find your receipt because some of them won't help you unless you have proof that the club was purchased from an authorized seller.

Yeah the problem is MacGregor is owned by Golfsmith, if I'm remembering correctly. But I got it replaced, so its all good. But that is good to know for next time, if there is one.


Oh, I didn't know MacG was owned by Golfsmith, not that it should matter because there's no excuse for being treated rudely.  Well, take heart because many of my friends as well as myself have recieved some attitude from sales personnel at Golfsmith a few times.  So, you're not alone.

    • Day 49 - 2024-11-18 Light day of HackMotion work in the basement with my putting. Suffice to say my feels very closely align with what is measured.
    • Day 200 (18 Nov 24) - Broke out the MacGregor blades to do some “vintage” club pitches and chips.  Focus was on alignment and where I am looking in relation to the ball…have been working on finding a focal point about 3-6 inches ahead of the ball (toward the target) and not staring at the ball.  Getting very predictable strikes.  Overall it was a fun drill session and will serve as a warmup to tomorrow’s planned front 9 walk with these irons and persimmon woods and of course a “new” putter - a Acushnet Bullseye…
    • TV ratings  continue to drop. Stop the endless wiggles and waggles.
    • I believe that losing a tour card is too extreme but definitely agree that more needs to be done to prevent slow play.
    • Its way past time both tours  have  major  penalties for  slow  play. I  hate  it when they say" This group is  on the  clock". Big damn deal. Issue  penalties. Maybe Hull is a  bit too harsh but  its time a slew  of  2 stroke  penalties start  being  issued.     Charley Hull is fed up with slow play on the LPGA, so she offered a ‘ruthless’ solution “I’m quite ruthless, but I said, ‘Listen, if you get three bad timings, every time it’s a tee shot penalty; if you have three of them, you lose your Tour card instantly.’ I’m sure that would hurry a lot of people up, and they won’t want to lose their Tour card. That would kill the slow play, but they would never do that.” Who knows if that will work. But if it does not, maybe the PGA Tour should adopt Hull’s idea. The LPGA should, too, or at least assess penalty strokes for slow play. Five-hour rounds for a final group on Sunday is unacceptable and a quick way to lose interest and engagement from fans.
