I realized about 6 months ago that my nike dymo 2 driver with a stiff shaft was hurting my driving accuracy. I believe it has more to do with torque in the stock shaft for this club than anything. I have a swing speed between 110 and 120. I hit my average driver about 275 carry and 6 iron about 185 carry. The stock shaft in a nike dymo is a  4.0 torque. I would like to get a titleist d3 driver with an aldila rip shaft with the 2.9 torque and 60 gram shaft. Is there anything else that I should take into account before I decide to purchase a new driver?

How about reshafting your driver .  Here is a shaft that would work well and not bread the bank----

You might be missing the point on this one, he seems to want to shell out for a new driver.

I suggest you not expect too much more distance out of a new driver; 275 isn't far from what you should be carrying. It might help accuracy with the adjustability, but I expect the new shaft will have less of an effect than you expect. Going heavier, and definitely an X flex will help, torque doesn't really make a major difference in itself. Also, go with a shorter length; 45 inches is already too long and it helps a huge amount to shorten it even a half inch.

I liked the aldila rip shaft 60 gram stiff shaft because its free with titleist D3. The titleist for me had the best feel of any other club. I have also tried the r11 with the x shaft. I felt as though I hit the ball way to high. I feel as though with the extra stiffness I will be able to have more accuracy. Being in the fairway more often will improve my distance. So i'm not to concerned about adding length.

Seriously?

Your driver swing speed is 110-120?  Do you realize how huge that range is?  That is crazy.......

Even if you just averaged 110......you'd easily be longer than 275 on average......

Just sayin'.....(unless you play 1970's Persimmon woods and old balata balls)

Stop guessing and get concrete numbers.........

I think 275 is a solid estimate for carry at 110mph; pros at the 112mph tour average are carrying around 270 pretty consistently, depending on their equipment setup.  Especially if he has too much spin, as is likely; he'd get almost all carry.

I expect that 120 is a bit padded, naturally. It can't be a normal swing, but I can break 120 if I swing really hard so I wouldn't doubt it to be possible. With that SS, you'd be nearing 290 yards of carry, and you would need a really good setup to avoid ballooning. I would agree with Buckeye that the range of 10mph is indicative of an unrealistic number; the 110 is not only respectable, but getting close to 110, like +- 2 mph every time, will help your accuracy. A 10mph range is about 30 yards of variation, and though it isn't a huge problem with the driver, you should try to tighten it up certainly with the irons.

Nike drivers are junk compared to Titleist, Ping, Taylormade, etc… I used to have a Dymo myself, and I hated it after a few rounds. Titleist 910D3 is a solid choice. I have the 910D2 now and its awesome!! Look into the slightly older Adams Speedline 9064LS with the Aldila RIP shaft. That thing is a beast! Longest driver ive ever hit! I have one as a back up right now. I went with the Titleist for consistency. Because the Titlesit is adjustable its really really helped my accuracy. I still love the Adams though. And that Aldila RIP is a badass shaft! Ive got it in both drivers…

In my Ogio bag.

Titleist 910D2 driver, Adams irons & hybrid, Callaway wedges & a Nike Method putter.

And a yellow ball.

Just to clear up the large range from 110 to 120. My average swing speed is 110 and I can ramp it up to 120.

I do have a problem with keeping a consistent swing speed with my driver. So many variables can increase it. Hold hard I rotate my body is a huge factor.

The 275 number is only CARRY. I do get some roll out but my problem is trajectory. I tend to have a descending swing with the driver which can create more spin. When I catch the ball on the up swing I am able to keep the ball a lot lower.

I really like the aldila shaft because its not whippy like the club I have now.
