I paid a visit to probably the best golf range/pro shop here in Ireland with the hope that I could find a set of irons that would reduce my draw/hook that my current mp-53 irons are giving me. I went there with the intent to try some of the more forgiving irons like the g15 or some of the callaway or taylormade GI irons.

Since I started playing 6 months ago I could never get used to larger soled irons. I had bought a set of x22 callaways as my first irons and hated them. I switched to mp58 irons and loved them apart from the punishment they give me on off center hits on my off days. Thats when I changed to the mp53's and they were a lot less forgiving IMO.

So at the range the guy must have give me about 10 different GI irons and I found that they either give me too much draw/hook or their large sole would prevent me from contacting the ball properly. Out of all the GI irons I liked the TM 2.0 with Stiff shaft the most. It give great distance. The only downside was I missed the great feedback of the mp58's. They were also a lot less accurate.

That's when I asked the guy about the i20's. He said that they are more of a players iron but I said I'd always regret it if I did'n't give them a try. He give me a 5 and a 7 i20 iron with the stock stiff shaft. Blue dot .75* upright. I hit 30 balls and not one drew too much. I then paid for another 75 balls and I couldn't believe how accurate I was. The other strange thing is that I could make the same distance with the ping 7 iron as the TM 2.0 6 iron.

I kept hitting balls for an hour and switched to the mp53 from time to time. The mp-53 was very unforgiving in comparison. I hit balls on purpose off the heel and toe and the i20 never failed. The 53 on the other hand would just give me a nasty shock up through the shaft and the ball would go nowhere.

Although I'm a beginner I know this iron is for me. I would say these irons are fade biased which suits me. My iron play is where my game has been held back most. My fairway, wedges and putting is fine.

I made the purchase of a 5-PW blue dot set for 520 euro.

I will also look into the ping i20 driver. I want a driver with no draw bias but that's also forgiving. I cannot hit your typical GI driver as the closed face causes me to draw too much or pull low hooks. I have an R11 at the moment and the face angle technology does nothing at all. It's the worst gimic I've ever seen. Changing the little dial at the back doesn't change the face angle in relation to the shaft like it does in say nike or titleist sure fit.

I just hope the i20 driver stock neutral face angle setting will be enough to cure my tendency to hook in the same way the irons have. Otherwise i'll be trying the 910 d2 or d3 where I can properly adjust the face angle to open.

Before buying clubs to fix something in the swing, i always look to see if the swing is were i want it to be. Its possible the clubs could be causing a problem, being to upright or not. But, i would never buy clubs to fix a swing fault, unless its an illfitted club that is causing the problem.

But glad you like the, they really look like something i might be getting this year. I really like what Mizuno has done with there new 59's, but i don't like dumping 1000 (US) on clubs. I also love Pings fitting, still the best with the amount of variation they can build there clubs into.

I understand what you're saying about fixing a swing rather than buying irons to fit a faulty swing but in my case I think my swing type is more like that of a better player. Others that I play with always comment on how nice my draw is. Its just that I need a forgiving club because I don't always find the sweet spot as you can imagine at a 22 handicap. But when trying to use something more forgiving I always got too many hits to the left (probably because of offset). The mp58's were great for keeping it straight but again on an off the sweet spot hit they would go nowhere. I guess I'm in a strange situation being such a high handicapper who prefers to hit less offset irons that are not too chunky.
