Hi guys I just purchased some new irons a couple of days ago The Taylor Made 2.0's    I have always taken a pretty good divot on my swings, but today I seem to have lost distance with these new irons.  I hit my pw-7 iron maybe the 6 but not consintetly pretty good with about the same distance.  My 6-4 however are not going near as far with my old irons I was 195-205 with my 5 iron not so much now Id say today I was only hitting it about 175.  With this though it seems like I am not getting good ball flight.  I am a 12 handicap so I am a pretty good ball striker.  Any suggestions to help me out?

i would ask you what shafts were in your old irons? The Burner 2.0s come standard with a very light shaft that can cause the ball to overspin for a  player hitting the ball as far as you. Recommend seeing a fitter and perhaps fitting some different shafts to reduce spin.

What would something like that cost? The only fitting I did was hitting the ball off the hard plastic strip and it showed I was all squared up.

Fitting costs vary depending on where you go.  I would recommend a demo day as they are free.  Most companies today have the ability to fit the same club head to different shafts and allow the player to see the flight.  If you need to re-shaft your clubs, the cost will depend on which shaft you get fits you.  Dynamic gold is the cheapest of the 'tour weight' options with Project X, KBS Tour, and KBS C-Taper all being relatively the same price and more expensive than dynamic gold.

Compare the lofts and lengths of the new clubs with those of your older set.  The number on the bottom of the club is pretty irrelevant because manufacturers jack with those numbers to give the illusion that we're hitting it further.  Sort of like how some clothing manufacturers put "Size 34" on a pair of pants that measure out to 38 inches while others put the same size on a pair that measure to 34 inches.

I've had 3 different sets of clubs over the past 9 years and I hit them all pretty much the same distance because the lofts were consistent set to set.

I contacted Golf Galaxy which is where I bought them 2 weeks ago they said to come back in and they would take a look.  They said I should of been looked at for a fitting more in depth when all they did the first time was the lie board.  I am not sure what they could do now since I have already hit them?????? Any ideas?

They have a playability and yardage guarantee on new custom fit clubs. Do a little reading then go back and ask for their best fitter. Be polite and stand your ground so that you get what you really needed. Good luck

I purchased the 2.0's in a stiff shaft, but all they did was the lie board.  Should I tell them that and try to go through the whole process I was told I was being put through the whole process.

All the lie board does is, well, lie angle, which is important but not as important as the correct shaft. I suspect the ball flight is higher than normal? You might be losing distance from ballooning alone. If Golf Galaxy told you to come back in I'd come back in. I'm certain that with their playability guarantee, you they're going to do whatever it takes to satisfy you. Even if they have to order you new clubs, they can still make a profit on your slightly used clubs.

Your desire to change has to be greater than your desire to stay the same.

I can't find any info online about a playability guarantee?

Don't worry about finding it, it's there. Quit wasting time and go back in.

    • Day 34 (14 Dec 25) - Got outside for a few moments to work on bump and runs with the 4h (again using the exaggerated weight shift reminder of the left (lead) heel). Finding that it helps keep the downswing arc extended.

    • I am currently playing a Cobra Ltdx LS 9 degree driver and Cobra Ltdx LS FW3. Both with Tensei White stock stiff shafts and original weights of 12g (heel) and 3g (toe). My miss is usually a pull fade or sometimes a slice, swing is out to in. Driver swing speed about 112 mph. Grips are stock regular. Intended change: Driver: Switching to Tensei White x-flex one inch shorter which I suppose would be 44,5? Changing heel weight to 18g. Changing grip to Golf Pride Z-grip cord midsize. Change hosel setting to standard draw. FW3: Changing heel weight to 16g (apparently not available in FW weights, but supposed to be something called "internal weight" a club builder can add which fits between the weight and the screw?). Change grip to Golf Pride Z-grip cord midsize. Changing hosel setting to standard +1. The goal is to 1) get better grip since I tend so lose grip in warm and moist conditions with the current grips and 2) mitigate the misses to start more straight with less side spin. Also considering adding the Cobra Ltdx LS FW5 instead of my old Taylormade R9 and getting 14g heel and 6g toe weights with the same grip as the others and hosel setting standard +1.   All of the above is based on conversations with ChatGPT and, as everyone knows, it can come up with pretty much whatever but I spent a few hours asking about different perspectives etc and this was the recommendation. So, my question is basically, does it make any sense?   Thanks.
