I am playing next weekend in Myrtle Beach and we have it narrowed down to MBN King's North and Willbrook Plantation. I have played King's North before and loved it but we have 2 golfers in our group who have around a 30 handicap. Which one would be better for us to play?

based on 2 golfers over a 30 i would say willbrook,

Driver- Callaway Razor somthing or other
3W- Taylor Made R11S
3H Rocketballz
4I-PW- MP-59
Gap- Vokey 54

Lob- Cleveland 60

Putter- Rife

Skycaddie SG5

Thanks for the advice. Is Willbrook that much easier? I didn't think King's North was all that hard but my handicap is around 14.

i don't think either is a killer, but from memory i think willbrook is easier.

Kings North has more water and forced carries than Willbrook. KN has water on half of the holes. Willbrook has water in play on "only" about a third of the holes. Willbrook is a little tighter though. I would tell the 30 handicapper to bring a lot of balls and not to worry about losing them. If they just play to have fun and not worry about score or losing balls they'll have fun on either course. If you want an easier but more plain cousre play the South or West course at MBN. Neither is as nice as KN or WB, but they are easier.

Here are links to photo tours of KN and WB. Maybe that can help you decide.

I'm playing Kings North in a few weeks. If you play it, I'd love to hear about it?

Thanks for the advice everyone! Rustyredcap, I will definitely let you know how it is if we end up playing there. I am leaning that way right now. Like I said, I have played it and I thought the unique holes were a ton of fun, so even the 30 handicaper should have fun. I liked everything about King's North when I played there...the clubhouse was very swanky and made me feel like a pro. So it is hard for me to branch out and try Willbrook but if anyone else has opinions by all means let me know.

Played Kings North last week. Nice facility, great staff who make the experience special,  Good but not awesome layout. Greens are the most beat up we played of six courses. Rough was dormant. Sand was sparse in bunkers. OK but not special. It will not be on list if/when we return. Kings South had much better greens and better pace of play.

Wild Wing and Witch are special layouts on special property -- IMHO.

I also like Wild Wing and the Witch. They are nice layouts that often fly under the radar of MB visitors. Glad you enjoyed them.

I am glad I ran across this thread...     We are headed to MB toward the end of the month on a camping trip and are planning to play a couple of rounds while we are down there.........    This thread probably saved me a few days of research!

Wild Wing Hummingbird is worth a look.

Wild Wing has two courses -- Avocet 18 holes and Hummingbird 9 holes. The Avocet is special. We played Avocet in the morning and then Hummingbird because they could not get our two-some off the Avocet in the afternoon. That Hummingbird course is great. Par 34 because they converted the ninth hole from a par 5 to a par 3. Perfect condition fairways, thick rough, and fast and true greens. Looked like no one had walked on the greens except the guys who kept them perfectly mowed. It was an 18 hole course before the changed it, so the holes are real golf holes. Best of all, we were literally the only ones playing the course. They had sent another twosome off 1.5 hours earlier and they were already finished. Nine holes with just a two-some on a beautiful day in MB. The guy in the pro shop said that only the locals play there and none where playing on a mid-week afternoon. People are frightened off by the par 34 and the 3046 from the tips. If you are looking to sneak in some golf while on a family vacation, this is a great way to play a fast and fun nine.

BTW, we normally look to play between 6200 - 6400 yards. We are not tip guys. Played the Hummingbird from the tips and it was a fair and good test of the game. Par 3's ranged from 115 to 205. Par 4's from 348 to 449. The one par 5 is 528. This is not an executive course.

We just got back from Myrtle Beach.   We played MBN Southcreek, Willbrook Plantation and Prestwick County Club.    All I can say is WOW!   Those courses are beautiful and make the ones here locally look like brushhogged cow pastures!    Their rough is in better shape than the fairways here!

For a high handicapper (which I am), I would recommend Southcreek and Willbrook.   Prestwick was fun but it definitely puts a premium on accuracy.  Thankfully, I was have an abnormally accurate day, when we played it.

    • Day 211 (29 Nov 24) - Friday men’s round albeit a solo foursome (temps in the 40’s, day after Thanksgiving and the average age closer to 75 - I’m a youngster at 65).  Interesting day of semi-solid play (8 of 18 GIR). Hit all four par threes in one (a first) - parred each; still had a couple 3 putt bogies; and blew up on 3 of the par 5’s (go figure)). The blow ups were some serious tree rattlers - amplifying how I got stupid and greedy instead of smart and content to just get back in the short stuff.
    • Day 60 - 2024-11-29 Got about 3.5' of snow today, so I was going to go to Golf Evolution, but… I only left the house to throw some snow. Instead, i checked out my putting stroke on HackMotion in the basement. Turns out… it's pretty good, and I'm very in touch with what I'm doing.
