43.5" or 44" Shaft?

For me, 45" is the longest i want a driver shaft.

For what it's worth I cut my Nike Sumo driver down to 43.75" and I still choke down on it. I really didn't see any loss in distance at all. I did gain accuracy and it just feels better to swing at that length. I'm 5'11" btw.

Don't think Tiger uses a 43.5 inch driver since about a lifetime ago. He started on tour with a 43.5 steel shafted driver.

"Graphite Design shipped 10 of the Tour AD DI shafts to Nike's design and tour facility in Fort Worth, Texas. Woods showed up here with two VR Tour drivers, each with a DI-7X shaft.

The length of the driver is believed to be 44.75 inches, although Tiger and his camp have yet to talk about the new club. According to reliable sources, the two drivers were constructed at 44.75 and 45 inches in length ."

There you have it -- Tiger's shaft is 45 inches.

No wonder the ladies want him.

Weird. The version I read with the same info was Copyright 2011.

I guess the phrasing is a little ambiguous anyway, " Tiger Woods has swung a 43.5 inch driver most of his career on tour " doesn't necessarily mean he does now.

I think the copyright is updated annually but unless Tom has written another edition of his book, my guess is the first edition was written in 2003, and the book is written in that context.

It's almost 10 years later, and a generation ago since Tiger has been on tour, and equipment has gone through drastic changes over the past 10 years - shafts, club heads, etc.

Tiger - a 45 inch driver shaft. He'd probably go longer if he could control the shaft. Maybe he ought to try a Harrison Shotmaker.

Well hindsight tells me "I dont know". But I did, I heated my old 2007 Burner till the shaft came out of the head, cut it down from there and re-epoxied it back on the head. Thing has held out for me without fail.

The version I have is The NEW Search for the Perfect Golf Club by Tom Wishon (Kindle Edition - 21 Jun 2011) which came out at the same time as the paperback version. Another reason I assumed the info was more current than perhaps it is.

You cut from the tip when you want to stiffen that tip and increase the kick point. I tried tipping more than spec -- one time. I took a perfectly great Ping TiSi driver around 1999, and fouled up a YS-6 shaft by tipping it -- It was great at killing small rodents from 50-250 yards.

      Day 33 (13 Dec 25) - Worked on weight shift and resetting the left heel during downswing (after listening to a discussion on Golf School this morning on PGA Tour Radio).  It centered on how Jack Nicklaus lifted his lead heel and how long driver champs do as well.  Taking cues from that discussion, worked an exaggerated feel of the left heel working doing some swing drill in the backyard using the 7i.  Wrapped up the session by hitting a few low bump and run shots in the backyard - keeping the process slow and exaggerated.

      It may not have been block practice, though, is one of the main points here. You may have been serving and from the same place, but you were likely trying to do slightly different things. It seems that would only be blocked practice if you were trying to hit the same exact ball hit to you to the same exact place in the far court. I'm not sure that's as random as if the ball that you're given to hit is at different places, too, but again…
