I have been having problems with my takeaway lately.

I will do it right for a little while and hit the ball well, but then i will fall into some bad habits and hit the ball like crap for a while and struggle to go back to the better takeaway.

I just thought of this to try and keep the feel of a good takeaway and backswing while i am standing over the ball.

Keep the handle pointing to the inside of my upper left theigh in the takeaway.

This is obviously a feel thing and obviously the handle won't point there the whole time, but when i struggle, the handle would point to the inside of my upper left thigh, but then move back.  That would make my hands go back too far inside...at least for whats comfortable to me...and i would have too low of a swing plane.  I also can't get my arms to roll naturally and it feels like i can't get the club back.  Then i can't get my arms to catch up with my body at impact and i don't hit as solid of shots...especially with my driver, which i push fade the crap out of when i struggle like this.

So does this make sense to anybody?

Awards, Achievements, and Accolades

With an iron, stand relaxed at address, neither aiding or resisting with the torso and arms.

Drop your forward knee towards the ball and watch what the club head does.  (it raises)

Now add more shoulder turn and watch the club head raise further.

The arms are passive for the take away if we allow them. (The handle wants to point at the left thigh.)

This is where I return to when lost........as long as I don't get flustered and forget.

Now stand at address with both Knees locked: Bend the forward knee and watch the club face open.......

"Quick Dorthy....the oil can!"
