Well, two rounds after moving from my cavity backed 755's to the muscle backed 695mb's, I have decided they are definitely going to stay in the bag.  It was an easier transition than I thought it would be, and have hit some magnificent (in my eyes) shots so far.  One errant shot so far, when I topped one out of the rough with the 4 iron on a par 5.  These were also my first two rounds played this year, but the greens are still wearing their winter covers (no putting), as the course is not officially open yet.  I think the several weeks of practicing in the garage with my contact board has also been a major contributor to the successful start I am seeing this year, as my drives are also more consistent.

One thing I have found, and won't be complaining about, is some added distance with these new-to-me irons.  A few more rounds to get adjusted to my distances, and hopefully I will be dropping some more digits off the 'ole index this year.  Anyway, I was a bit excited about the new season and wanted to share....  I hope everyone has as good a start to their new year as well!

I actually just picked up some 755's and i absolutely love em. i dont think im good enough to go to a muscle back yet so i felt a forged cavity back that is relatively thin would be a great transition. so far so good. my irons used to be my biggest problem in my game.

Yes, the 755s are pretty sweet.  Irons were always a thorn in my side, when I had my big berthas.  Those 755s helped to straighten out my pulls rather quickly.  It was probably just a mental thing with the huge offset on the BBs, but the 755s definitely set up better at address.  By doing so, it helped to focus a little more to make better contact, which is what really led to getting rid of the pulls.

The major reason for me changing was the cost of reshafting (that, and the 695s are just too beautiful, ha ha).  I found the 695's for a few dollars more than the cost of a reshaft, and they already had shafts that are more suited to my swing, as I am trying to implement a slower tempo this year.  I also wanted to lower my ball flight a little.  I just sold the 755's to offset the cost of a new 3 wood, so there's no going back now!

Enjoy your 755s!

    • Day 36: back to some mirror work tonight. Need a bit more forearm roll in my feels to help with the shallowing.
    • _sigh_ so close to red text.  Went away for three days, but didn't do a practice morning-of-departure (Friday) nor evening-of-return (Sunday), so I had three misses, back to day one. Day 1, May 4 2026.  At home today, spent nearly an hour in my practice room, hitting about three dozen practice balls, primarily with my 6-iron.
    • Day 254 5-4 Arms off chest in backswing and downswing. Short swing, pause and then hit.  Hit foam balls. Keeping arching of wrist a focus as well.
    • I would think of it in terms of time. The time it takes to get the arm angle into a good position to deliver the club with proper shaft lean. Another component is rotation, but that is also a matter of timing. It relates to how the body stalls to give the golfer time to hit the ball. If you have to get 80+ degrees out of that right elbow in one third of a second versus 50 degrees in the same time then you have to steal time from somewhere. It is usually body rotation. That does not help with shaft lean.  I agree in that amateurs tend to make the swing more complicated than pro golfers.
    • I haven't been able to practice like I wanted and won't for the next week.  1. The weather sucks in Ohio this year. I have been mostly inside hitting foam balls. Just kind of my basic stuff.  2. I woke up last Saturday with a left side rib muscle on fire. If I turned or leaned a certain way it would spasm that almost buckled my knees. I have been taking a break to let that settle. I don't want to get a long term injury. I think I pinched a nerve or just aggravated a muscles.   3. I am going on a mini-vacation to Florida (screw you Ohio weather) with a friend, and rolling that into a work conference I have next week. I will be with out my clubs for a week.  I will be back next in two Fridays to hit the ground running with some warmer temps and better weather in Ohio, hopefully. I would really like to get more out on the course and the range.
