How much would it cost...?

I have come to really enjoy this game recently and plan on playing a lot this summer!

The only problem is my younger brother insists on coming with me everywhere, thereby doubling the cost of everything.

This also means that we need to share the same set of clubs.

It is a discount set that isn't really worth much but it has irons 5-pw two hybrids, 2 woods, and a driver.

Now, my plan is this summer to slowly start buying my own new equipment, because I am terrible at sharing.

How much will replacing all this stuff cost me?

I am figuring about 150 for the driver, 350-400 for the irons and 200 for the wedges? YIKES thats a lot of money.

This is of course assuming I can find good deals and accumulate these over time.

How much do you guys think I am really going to end up spending on all this?

If it is going to add up to 1000$ I may wait another year yet before deciding to change, I don't need any new toys that badly.

I don't want the absolute top of the line stuff, but I wan't reputable products.

Not really looking to get used stuff.

If your set on buying new (unused), your obviously going to be paying a bit more. But if you look for deals, and don't mind eBay, you can find some steals and can piece together a good bag for ~$500. Check out Rockbottomgolf.com, they always have good prices.

However, if you were to buy used, you can pick up good condition or better, higher end equipment for roughly the same price or less. Check out Globalgolf.com .

Buy used, or last years.  Golf clubs depreciate fast. $400 buys  far better used clubs then new.

I went on RockBottomGolf right now and built a pretty nice set for $520.  I didn't choose the cheapest items but not the most expensive items either.

Heres what I put...

Nike VR Tour driver - $120

Adams TightLies 3W - $40

Wilson Staff D-Fy irons (19.5* fybrid, 4h, and 5-PW) - $199

Nike SV 2 Wedge set (56*, 60*) - $90

Adams Tight Lies Blade Putter - $20

Ogio S-Light Stand Bag - $50

If you use the coupon code that expires tonight (it's "masters") that price goes down from $520 to about $470... and while that code expires tonight they usually have some sort of sell going on.

I think its a pretty decent set... the driver is pretty solid as are the irons and wedges... the 3 wood is on the cheap side but it's a great beginners 3 wood and I had one in the bag for years... the putter is also not the greatest but it's not a bad place to start and you could do a whole lot worse than the Ogio bag.  And there are many more options on the site so look around.

Also, GolfSmith has a 3 wedge set by Snake Eyes (one of their brands, but good quality) for $99 new and many places have the 3 wedge Adams Tom Watson wedges for the same price so that would be worth looking at.  If you start looking used you can find all sorts of great deals.

So yeah, it can be expensive if you want the latest and greatest but there are ways to get decent sets on a budget as well.

The iron set looks good, I like the price. I know those wedges are the best but I think I will go for a three wedge set for versatility. I think I want one of the newer adjustable drivers so I will probably go to a local golf store and find which is right and then hunt eBay. This is all for way in the future though. Are there any other iron sets around the same price that are worth looking at? Thanks, Seb

Yeah, there is tons of good stuff out there at good prices... my point wasn't that you should buy that stuff but rather how quick you can find good stuff at good prices.  Check out Callaway Pre-Owned, 3ballsgolf, and GlobalGolf as well.  Some here have also tried and liked Giga Golf.  They are a clone club manufacturer but their stuff seems to be pretty good quality from the reviews I've seen so that may be worth considering as well.

Are the purespin diamond face wedges any good?

Ok guys,

Here is my plan.

I am going to first get the purespin wedge set because I currently don't have any wedges.

My brother is going to buy his own putter so then I will just keep the one in the set we currently have.

From there I will probably get the Wilson iron set sometime in the next two-three months.

Then I will go to a local golf shop, decide which driver I like best and hopefully buy it used for about 200.

This is all going to add up to 508 I think, once I get the fairway wood too.

Seems like a pretty good deal to me.

Again, does anyone know if purespin wedges are any good?

I've never used Purespin wedges, but when I want to buy something new on the cheap, I go to rockbottomgolf.com and peep the reviews.  If the price makes you think it's too good to be true, but the product gets a bunch of good reviews, it's usually worth the investment/risk.
