Hi all,

First post here.  I'd like to start up playing golf and not sure where to start as far as equipment goes.  I know you get these questions daily but I figured I'd ask anyways.  I'm 35 and 5"6.  I have no idea what I need as far as clubs goes.  I am willing to spend up to $500 for clubs to get me started.  I don't really want to spend anymore than that in case I dislike it and give it up.

I plan on taking lessons as well.  But if anyone could point me in the right direction as to what clubs to buy and size, that'd be great.  I saw a set on Costco.com for a full set for $550.  Callaway 11 piece X hot set.  Any thoughts on this?

Thanks

Thank you!  One more question regarding this set you recommended. It asks if I want regular flex under options.  Do I?  Sorry, but I literally know nothing about this.

flex all depends on swing speed. if you think you may have a fast swing you might want stiff flex shafts and learn to hit them as opposed to spending more money buying regular flex and having too much lag.

Take lessons with clubs the instructor provides before buying. You can rent them at the course when playing. Some courses offer loaners for free during a round.

    • Day 446 - 2025-12-20 Woke up early and got some swings in before teaching putting all day. Looking forward to doing the same tomorrow.
    • It's miles better, though.
    • Went up to Erie for a lesson. I still need to work on how I shift my weight into my right leg and turn into the right leg. I extend it too much and externally rotate it too much. That all causes me to over rotate the hips and cause weight shift issues in the downswing. I need to feel like my right leg gains flex (it doesn’t), and my knee cap faces forward. The right hip sinks back and right. I need a need a ton more internal rotation. I still have some right elbow issues in the backswing. The path is better, but too much right elbow bend. I need to maintain width in the right elbow and let my right shoulder retract more, let’s say at A3, which helps keep that right arm extended.
    • Day 130 12-20 Today was just swinging what i had and go from there. Did focus on getting to lead side. Recorded swings for lesson  and hit real balls.
