  1. 1. Should I get a 4 hybrid to replace my 5 wood, 3 iron, and 4 iron?

Hey guys,

I'm new to this forum. I have a question because I am going to be going on a little golf spending spree tomorrow. I can't decide which club would be most beneficial to me. I have an old 5 wood that I rarely use. I thought about getting a new five wood but I have recently seen many people rave about the benefits of hybrids. I usually do not hit my 4 and 3 irons with great accuracy but with great power.

3 wood - 220 yards

5 wood - 200 yards

3 iron - 210 yards

4 iron - 190-200 yards

So my question is simply this. Could I replace my 5 wood, 3 iron, and 4 iron with a rocketballz 4 hybrid? I have recently hit a rocketballz 3 hybrid and hit it straight and long. So with a rocketballz 4 hybrid I feel i could be pushing around 205 yards or so. By doing this I could replace potentially my 5 wood, 3 iron, and 4 iron. And by doing this I could add more wedges to improve my short game.

Is a hybrid a great complement to these clubs or should I just get a new 5 wood and continue with my normal clubs I have.

Thanks very much. I don't know if I went against any rules with this forum. So if I did I am sorry

Think about yardage gaps in your long irons and woods.  I play 3 wood, 3 hybrid, 4 iron.  for these I get 210-220, 200-210, 180-190, so the gaps are fairly well covered.  The hybrid is going to be easier to hit from the fairway.  If I choke down on the 3 hybrid, I get the 190-200 distance with a bit lower trajectory.

I personally would opt for the 3 hybrid and keep the 4 iron.  Try swinging easier with the 4 iron to make better contact and let the club do the work.

If you hit the hybrid 205, based on the yardages you posted you certainly could ditch the 5 wood and 3 iron. I'd probably hang onto the 4 iron. What's your current wedge set up and what are you looking to add, a lob wedge?

    • That’s a 19th hole story that would be recounted for many, many moons to come for sure…..
    • I know. I was just kidding. BTW - I'd take the second place with the meltdown. It would at least make a good story.
    • That answers my question.  That feels more natural to me. I'll work on that. Thanks
    • Complex question. Good players begin pushing forward around P2. Visibly around P3. They're well on their way forward at P4.
    • Still plugging away with the teacher.  I do have a question after working on some drills last night. This is something I should know already but for some reason, I have gotten myself confused. It deals with weight transfer on the downswing. At what point, should that take place?  Should it be early (prior to reaching A4) ?  I ask because in one of my drills  I get to A4, I feel the weight transfer AS my arms drop, and then go.  Now this may be totally normal, but I "feel" like this gets me in a weird timing position and causes me to try and do too much at once.
