I have been thinking about this for a while and think this would add some valued feedback while I am working on certain aspects of my swing, especially the takeaway and back swing.

Normally I start the camera, shoot my swings, then review the video, see what I have to work on etc.. But then I was thinking what if I could step outside my body and stand behind myself while I swing.

Here's the thought. If I could take a camera (or iphone) and stream it to my IPAD, I could put the IPAD on the other side of my ball on the ground so I can see the screen(taking proper steps to protect the screen somehow). This would provide me instant feedback of my swing. Am I on plane, coming OTT, hands not deep enough, club head angle in relation to plane, etc. If I could see my take away and see if I am bringing the club back on plane it would help me get a better reference of where I need to be without stopping and viewing the video.

It would be even more of a benefit if I put a rod in the ground at the angle of the swing plane to try to get as close to the plane while I am swinging for live instant feedback.

I found this app that allows you to transmit live video from your iphone over bluetooth or wifi. I am not sure how well it works, but would have to give it a try.

Does anyone see any benefit in doing it this way or would I be wasting my time?

Thanks!

I just use a mirror.

How do you see the mirror in a DTL view when your making your back swing, just turning your head? Wouldn't that alter your angle\movement when attempting a swing? I was thinking of it logistically by keeping the head down ( and everything else similar) just as I would in a normal swing.

I tend to over think things though.

One thing I've been thinking of, but too lazy / busy at work to write, would be some software to do what you are saying but with a little bit of a twist... I'm thinking of a few key features:

1) Have the playback be delayed by a configurable amount (5 seconds or so). This lets you swing naturally, then look at the display for your instant feedback

2) Draw lines and such on the screen like a swing analysis program allows (for better feedback)

3) As an addition to #2, be able to define thresholds and have the app play a noise when crossed. This is the hardest to explain -- say you are working on keeping your head still. Draw a box around your head in the app & it will alert you when you move outside that box. Or draw a line outside your left hip, play a sound when you cross that line (meaning you got your weight forward enough). The audio feedback is key because that way you don't have an un-natural swing by looking at the display to see if you are doing it right. For the techies out there, I think the OpenCV library should be powerful enough to do this, really just looking for some basic motion flow stuff, that should be straightforward enough to do in real time.

If you're looking at your iPad you're not looking at the ball anyway. You can make a motion, hold your body, and look in a mirror, yes. Your neck is pretty capable of rotating back to look in the mirror, especially since your shoulders have rotated back that way too. :) You can probably rotate your head without changing your body's position.
