I have been playing for the last few years with taking the club club inside and then back inside for the downswing.  To me, this makes the most sense in keeping everything attached.  To say it another way, I like to keep my elbows close to my body at all times until after impact.

Is this a "common" style?  A friend of mine who is a really accomplished player takes it back and then drops back to the inside.  He plays great with this style, but to me it seems like there's too much timing and coordination involved.

Anyone play the way I do?

These days I'm working on detaching it a little, get the hands higher and the lead arm on my shoulder plane. You can read a bit about it here: http://thesandtrap.com/t/38285/my-swing-zeph/90#post_701978 You can play good golf with either approach if you do the right things. I'm too low, so I need to get a bit higher, but I don't want them high like Dustin Johnson and have to drop them inside on the downswing. I want the hands to go in a somewhat straight line from the top of the backswing. You will always have a slight curve, but I don't want the big loop. The threads explain a bit about the arms taking the most efficient route. With the hands high, you have to re-route them on the way down. If they are around the shoulder plane, you can keep them on the plane and square to the arc for a longer period of time. Less timing, as you mentioned, and perhaps easier to control.
