I just got back from the best range session I've had in years, maybe in my entire golf career!

I wish I would have brought my camera to video my swing. When I go again on Friday I will though.

Let me try to describe what happened.

I started out hitting my wedges just OK.

Then I got to my PW. Couldn't hit it for anything, weak shots, some chunks, etc.

So I started experimenting. I started trying to keep the face square on the takeaway. It almost felt like it was shut.

I've always rotated the clubface up/open on the takeaway, and then rotate it back on the downswing, and then release at impact.

It felt strange, but OMG I started hitting the most flush shots ever! Getting that nice compression, the ball had a perfect ball flight. Some straight, and some with a small draw.

The feeling I had with my right arm, was almost like I was keeping it from bending too much. I remember reading a thread on here, about straightening your right elbow.

This allowed me to drop it into the slot, and relax on the downswing, creating the lag. Like you know Sergio's swing.

Now I know what they're talking about when they say drop it into the slot. I found the slot, I found the slot!!!

So I went to my 7 iron, again, perfect flush shots.

Well I can't say every single shot was perfect, there was a few bad ones, but a lot more good ones than bad.

Then I hit my 5 iron, again hit it really good and long.

Then to the hybrid, once again, I have never hit the hybrid so well.

Being confident, I whip out the 3 iron. I haven't even really used or even practice with the 3 iron, since I got my new clubs a couple of months ago. Again hitting that really good.

Same thing with my 3 wood, off the ground, some really flush solid shots.

So now let's talk about the driver. OMG I was crushing that thing!! All the shots were in the middle of the the face. You know those lines on your driver? All the hits were in between those!

Not every shot was perfect, some were big slices. But for the most part, it was long and straight and sometimes with a little draw.

On Friday I'm going to the range again, and this time I'll bring my camera and post up a video here.

I'm still trying to comprehend what just happened out there. It was that good.

Driver: Callaway Big Bertha 10.5*

3WD:  Callaway Big Bertha 15* / X2 Hot H4 Hybrid
Irons:  Callaway Apex 4-PW Project X 5.5 shafts

Wedges: Callaway MackDaddy 2  52/58
Putter: Odyessey Metal X Milled 1

Nice one Motley. That sounds like exactly what I've been working on.

Keeping it shut. Basically keeping your right palm facing the ground on the takeaway instead of opening the face. Feels a bit strange at the start but it's natural for me already and I've been doing it less than a month. I do it with every club right through to the driver.

I've never hit the driver as well as I am at the moment. I'm guilty of the throwing my hands and I can hit massive slices but lately it's been bullet straight and long as hell.

Glad you've found what seems like the right things to work on. Keep at it.
