I am brand new to golf. The only experience I have would be playing put put. I am a college student so I am trying to build the best quality set I can for a reasonable price. I decided I would be better off purchasing lightly used clubs instead of going to a Big Box store and just getting a set already thrown together. I came across a website called 3balls.com and found a lot of great deals there. The only thing I have purchased so far is a set of Taylor Made RAC OS 2 irons which included 3-PW and came recommended from a friend. They are steel shafts with a regular flex as I didn't want anything to stiff starting out. I payed $140 for them which i felt was a good deal. What I am having trouble figuring out is what other clubs I need to buy to get started. I understand I need a putter, SW, drivers, hybrids etc.. I know I am going to need forgiving drivers but there is just so many choices out there. If anyone could recommend some beginner friendly clubs that I need to complete my set I would greatly appreciate it. Also if there is any other good sites for used equipment please let me know.

thanks,

Josh

Go to a golf shop and tell them you want some used clubs. Test-hit the clubs to make sure they fit you.

Also, have you had any lessons yet? If not, take a couple to learn correct basics of the swing. This will make all the difference in the world.

If possible, find a summer golf clinic. At clinics, beginners get together a couple of nights a week to learn the basics. Often, the clinics have a good price because the course or driving range is trying to attract new players.

Focus, connect and follow through!

    • Day 446 - 2025-12-20 Woke up early and got some swings in before teaching putting all day. Looking forward to doing the same tomorrow.
    • It's miles better, though.
    • Went up to Erie for a lesson. I still need to work on how I shift my weight into my right leg and turn into the right leg. I extend it too much and externally rotate it too much. That all causes me to over rotate the hips and cause weight shift issues in the downswing. I need to feel like my right leg gains flex (it doesn’t), and my knee cap faces forward. The right hip sinks back and right. I need a need a ton more internal rotation. I still have some right elbow issues in the backswing. The path is better, but too much right elbow bend. I need to maintain width in the right elbow and let my right shoulder retract more, let’s say at A3, which helps keep that right arm extended.
    • Day 130 12-20 Today was just swinging what i had and go from there. Did focus on getting to lead side. Recorded swings for lesson  and hit real balls.
