Here's your answer. You wrote it yourself. Bad attitude, young fella.

Noone else here as ever indicated any disdain for junior golfers.

In fact, we are desperately trying to encourage them.

The problem isn't with junior golfers, it with one particular junior golfer and I'm guessing that the people who you are upsetting are not interested in your amazing golfing skills but disgusted by your attitude.

And for god's sake, learn what "hate" actually means. It doesn't mean "any slightly negative comment about my claims".

You may as well have just typed "whatever" and sailed away. And if you want to know why some older people have a problem with your type, it's your complete inability to articulate and maintain a discussion and to get all huffy when their views or experience get in the way of your fantasy or the  reality of who you actually are.

In over 40 years of playing this game the only people I've not enjoyed playing with are ones who don't see themselves as others do.

I dare you to find a post here amongst the many thousands which talks about "hate" for juniors.

Sensing a common denominator yet? And don't be looking for it on the calculator function of your iPhone.

In the race of life, always back self-interest. At least you know it's trying.

Look at the driving range post just recently, where more then one had a displeasure towards kids. I'm sorry to offend anyone by my post, and sincerely didn't mean to brag. Also, it's hard to type quickly and efficiently on an old iPod, which is what all of my replies thus far have been on.

You may want to go back and re-read the driving range thread again.  I don't think reading comprehension is a strong suit for you.

I find this thread extremely sad. There's a 14 yr old lad, who appears to be a little insecure and looking for a little praise getting a good roasting by a load of adults whose attitude, quite frankly, stinks. What would some of you do/feel if your son had posted up something that is relatively innocuous and a whole host of rabid dogs had jumped on him? The lad maybe having a gentle brag, and maybe isn't the best of company out on the course but he's only a 14 yr old lad, not a beer swilling belching and farting redneck. Some of you need to go and have a good look at yourselves in the mirror...

Flame away guys, its about all some of you are good at.

Just stick to your game. If you're a great player, people will see that within the first 4 holes of play and you'll get your fair share of praise and compliment

Thank you...someone else realizes that most of the people on here are just trying to get attention and compliments and want people to say "Wow kid you're really good and you'll go far!". I see many people asking things like: "I'm 13 and I drive 300 yards and shoot in the 70's...am I good?" Put your money where your mouth is and show people on the course

I've resorted to playing only in rain and late and night to avoid the gawking and abuse I get from driving it 300 "each go".

As an older golfer, it's confusing. When I mention that I hit my 8 iron 170, people scowl and get restless. Why?

I've even been threatened physically whe I "juice" one onto a par 4.

What I don't really understand is that 300 to me just seems normal. Whay are people so rude to me?

I don't evne lnow if it's that far.

Seems to me that anyone over 25 just hates older great players.

Would a person who wrote this be given the support you have so generously offered to the humble OP?

As far as I'm concerned, anyone who refers to their own drives as being "juiced" deserves what they get.

Sorry for offending your egos, gentlemen. I never said I was terrible, never said I was great, never said I only play in the rain or at night. If you're going to insult me, do it properly please.

OK.

If you really think you hit it 300 every time as you say you did, you're either stupid or a liar.

Do you think Tim Clark hits it 300 every time? He's 5.7

You also boast about "juicing" it onto par 4s and pretend to be bemused when your attitude, as evidenced by the above comment is called into question.

No wonder the people you play with can't stand you.

You also think that there is a conspiracy against young players. No. There is general disdain for arrogant punks of any age  who talk themselves up and can't back it up.

Anyone who hits it 300 yards and plays off 6 must be a truly abysmal iron player and/or putter, and I've never ever seen someone who has the coordination to hit it a long way but can't hit irons.

As mentioned before, my putting and chipping/pitching can use work. If you don't believe me, go to most any high school golf tournament and there'll be people hitting it over 300 yards all over the place, especially at altitude.

I'm not joining this to say Opaca is a hero or anything, but hitting it 300 yds most of the time isn't that big of a deal anymore. With technology the way that it is, 300 has become a lot more possible.  I do hit it 300 most of the time, but I suck at 100yds in even though that is the distance I have left to the hole a lot.  I can hit the green sure, but I don't give myself a realistic birdie chance.  I can putt well too.  The reason for being a 5 in my case is simple.  More often then I'd like on an 18 hole round, I hit a poor shot.  The difference between me and people of less handicap is the fact that they make less mistakes than I.  CONSISTENCY! That is what makes a golfer improve, not the distance his shot goes.  A guy blows it past you, big whoop, you can still put it closer on the 2nd shot or out put him.

You know what, forget it. I was trying to see if there was some unknown hate for junior folders in the community, not start a hate-fest. Now, if someone would be so kind as to tell me how/if you can close a thread, I'll gladly do so.

You can't be serious with this one. An "unknown hate for junior ...." indeed - GMAB. Also, if you truly think that this thread is an unjustified "hate-fest", you've got bigger problems than those you claim to be experiencing on the course. You need help m'lad. And no, your being capable of hitting it around 300 is not the issue. Do not delude yourself.

A teenager hitting the ball 300 yards is not something people take lightly. If you really want people to believe you, post a swing video or even a launch monitor screencap. We've had a lot of new posters come on and claim that they hit the ball 300 yards, but when you're only measuring points are the yarding stakes you would be surprised at how far you can be off, especially on drivable par-4s. They aren't measured directly from tee to green, they're measured from tee to fairway to green, so when the scorecard says 330 yards it can often be much less, possibly even under 300. Any hole that isn't dead-straight simply cannot be used to measure driver distance. If you have access to a GPS, many of them will tell you your driver distance. Alternatively, Google Earth has a ruler function, for a rough estimate you can measure from your normal tee box to your normal drive. Also ditto to the hate stuff. You're not a rapper, you aren't allowed to cry "everyone hates me" much less "everyone hates juniors" because some random internet users doubt the fact that a teenager hits it 300 yards. And last, I've played with plenty of teenagers that hit the ball a longs ways, and I've never seen someone give them strange looks, so quite frankly I have no idea what you're talking about.

Opaca, that's a pretty long ways we're talking here. Take 3 football fields on end andthats what you're saying is your average drive. I'm not saying its impossible, I've seen teenagers hit it that far, but never as young/with as high a handicap as you have. Any launch monitor data you might have would be most enlightening, even if it isn't the be-all end-all of distance measurement depending on where you live compared to sea level.

Hey all,

Guess who was forbidden to join this Internet forum? Guess who also happened to leave said forum's page open and logged in on his computer screen? I sincerely apologize for my son's actions, and thank you for showing him he's not ready for this yet. He isn't even in high school yet, so I'm not sure what other lies he might've told you.

I'm still wondering about you handicap.  It doesn't add up.  You say you average 4 to 6 over par.  Yet your handicap is 6.  Doesn't make sense.

    • It may not have been block practice, though, is one of the main points here. You may have been serving and from the same place, but you were likely trying to do slightly different things. It seems that would only be blocked practice if you were trying to hit the same exact ball hit to you to the same exact place in the far court. I'm not sure that's as random as if the ball that you're given to hit is at different places, too, but again…
    • I played tennis in college. I thought block practice was great for serves because you were starting the point and  you could easily adjust where you wanted to place the ball based off the same motion. I equate those to tee balls. I despised block practice for groundstrokes once you reached a certain level and your fundamentals were good. To me, hitting a 100 crosscourt backhands in a row was silly because I would never do that in a match. I needed to randomize it by hitting some deep, some angled, all with different speeds and spins. I share that same thought about iron play. Because we seldom hit the same approach shots hole after hole, I prefer to practice irons randomly.
