My weekend foursome went to play one of the RTJ Trail courses yesterday, The River course @ Hampton Cove, and I was having a pretty good day until #15 when just as I was in mid-swing on my tee shot someone said something behind me and I pulled my drive left. Not that the shot was all that bad, I still had a second, but I was so pissed about the talking it got in my head and couldn't shake it and finished the last 4 holes 6 over. What really made me mad was the guy that was talking was my partner for the day. He and I ride to the course together a lot and he always complains about one of the other guys in our group being a rude golfer but the fact is, that most of the time, he's the one that's annoying.

I guess I need to work on not letting my temper get the best of me but sometimes it's hard.

or you could just perhaps ask him to not talk during your swing and avoid the issue all together?

One shot at a time, dude. You even said the pull wasn't that bad. But you let it affect the rest of your round. Thicken your skin.

True concentration can tune out lots of stuff.  I once had a golf ball come flying in from another hole that went between my legs and I didn't even see it.  My playing partners were amazed as I pumped a drive down the fairway as that happened.  But talking?  You can always back off your shot and ask the guys to cool it for a second.  If you are already in mid swing and somebody says something, there's no reason you shouldn't be able to finish the swing as you would normally.  You should have had the tempo dialed in already.  Have a good preshot routine.  And if someone disturbs you in the middle of it, start again.  But amp up your concentration and this won't be a problem.
