im curious what the wrist should be doing on the downswing. i get hinging on the way up but going down is there a point where you release the hinge into the ball, i just dont think keeping the wrist hinged through the swing is right and i could be wrong but it seems like that would be to much lag and the shaft would be way in front of the clubhead

nothing, leave them be, the clubhead will unhinge them naturally through the shot,....dont try to manipulate them at all

Make sure by "hinge" is not also cupping or whatever the opposite of cupping is called. A proper hinge can be felt by holding club straight in front of you with your arms straight out and then hiding the club to point straight up -- thumbs pointing up. That is the hinge you want. If you hold that hand position, bend, and turn and into the top of the backswing position, you'll feel that proper hinge. That hide will release itself. Don't need to feel a flip of the wrists. Just relax your arms and hands enough for the club to swing through.

pretty much, the motion of un-hinging should be natural into the ball

I tend to have to much wrist action and i "flip" at the ball, trying to scoop it off the ground,.....

you can at times go the other way and do whats called "holding off",....wher eyou think by keeping solid wrists through impact and maintaining the angle is good,...but all you do is hold the face open and slice it,......

if you let your wrists feel "limp" then you should get the correct result (or close to) almost like a whipping motion

give it a go and see what your ball flight is like, you can usually assess from that what your release is like

If you have a proper grip, your wrists should naturally return to the correct position at impact because the lead arm and club shaft want to form a good straight line when you swing a club with speed. Manipulation of your wrists is needed if your grip is off and/or if you hinge the club in ways other than that straight up motion. I find the proper hinge is much simpler than I want to make it. The lead forearm and wrist stay flat throughout the hinge. You should be able to put a pencil under your watchband and not have it stab you in the back of your hand or separate too much from touching the back of your hand. My error is the stabbing one and then I need to feel a compensation to get back into the correct position at impact.

Keep it simple and let the club and physics help release the club through impact.
