This started happening a few weeks ago and I can't figure out what it is! When hitting irons off tees (par 3's) I'll feel a twinge in my hands, like the feeling you get when you hit a baseball with a metal bat in cold weather. The ball doesn't have any hook or slice at all, but moves right and well short. I thought it was some sort of fluke at first. I went to the range yesterday to try to work it out. First thing I assumed was that I was crowding the ball and hitting it off the heel. I don't think that's it because I stepped far back and was still doing it. I moved the tee up, tee down, moved closer to the ball, moved farther away, and nothing helped. What the hell is this?

Oh, I also should note that this has never happened, not even once, without a tee.

You might be tryin to sweep the ball off the tee causing you to "come up" on it. If you are having success with your irons out of the fairway then try using no tee off the tee box. Alot of the time when people use a tee for their iron shots they feel there is no chance of chunking it so they "lift up" trying to get more air on it which actually causes the ball to be hit on the upswing (good for drivers bad for irons) and this leads to skulling or "blading" the ball occaisionally.

    • Day 58: night putting session for about an hour. Started with lag putting and ended with putts inside 9’. I need to work on putts from 6-12’, but in a solid spot overall.
    • Birdied a different #6 today (incidentally, also a par-5, but not the same one on which I previously birdied).  Here's the funny thing though:  it's the par-5 that caused me to post my "how do I avoid bogeys?" on par-5s recently.  So I guess I still haven't parred that hole.
    • Day 20, May 24.  Played 18 today, very poor ball driving.  One GIR, and it was a 4-wood from the rough.  Several other instances of hitting a green on a full swing (and at least one full swing motion -- a 50% UW) that wasn't for GIR.   Still shot an 87 and even had a birdie (chip-in).
    • Welcome to TST.  I spent a bit of time in the UK but I had to look up Wagon Wheels.  Don't think I ever saw them.  Had to Google to see.  Couple similar items in US but Google says they are different. 😁
    • Day 264 5-24 Worked on getting chest through and arms down infront of chest. Contact isn't great yet but on video looking better.
