Newbie provisional ball question

Say you hit your first tee shot (1 stroke) and think it might be lost, and so to be safe tee up a provisional...you then whiff attempting to hit the provisional (1 stroke) then hit the provisional (2 strokes)...if you then find your first ball, is it your 2nd stroke or does the extra stroke taken with the provisional affect your score?
