Hello, I have a question that I have never seen anyone address on the internet, I'm pretty sure someone on here will have some ideas.  On a normal inside targetline inside swing the bottom of the swing is the point where the club is farthest from the body and it is aimed at the target.  It's recommended to play the driver forward to catch it on the upswing. It seems to me that places the ball outside the normal path.  One would have to slide or make some other compensation on the downswing to hit the ball.  Basically you would be picking up the path and placing it forward on every driver swing.  One would have to groove that move and then not let it carry over to the other clubs.  I think this is why I hit my driver so bad.  I hit my irons fine but my driver is inconsistent.  My solution up to this point has been to tee it low and play the ball for my driver at the bottom of my swing.  I can hit straight doing that but I am giving up a lot of distance with all the backspin. Anyways that part of the swing after the club has bottomed out the club should be moving back inside.  Without compensations the suggested ball position should lead to glancing blows off the toe.  I think it makes sense to play the ball closer to the body where the club should hit the ball at that part of the swing.  I'm not sure how much closer it should be though.  Also if the club is square to the path I would hit pulls with this setup, so I would have to aim right. I haven't tried this yet.  I have thought about it before but never could find in info that verified this so I pretty much forgot about it.  Thanks

with the driver i have started teeing it about a ball or 2 inside of my front heel. helps me catch it from the inside a little better without flipping my hands after it.

yes the idea with teeing it forward is to minimize backspin but also because your arms are still extending through the target zone.

I to asked this ages ago,...i found a awesome video on youtube I just searched for "hitting modern 460cc driver"

the video explained that old 460cc drivers the COG was higher up the face, and meant you had to hit up to get any distance,....the new 460cc drivers the COG is much lower on the face and placed much further back in the head,...

for me my driving improved by teeing it lower and closer to middle stance,.....i lost distance at first until i realised that i can now swing harder at it because i have more control,........

look at any pro teeing up now,.....no more than a 1/4 of the ball is above the crown and the ball is generally between middle of stance and their big left toe........

you just need to faff around with tee heights and ball positions until you find the one that with an easy swing it goes where you want it to,...once you find that start swinging harder

PS: I dont care what anyone says about the swing the mechanics for irons/driver may be the same but theres a fundamental difference for me between driving the irons into the ground to compress the ball and sweeping the woods to "pick" the ball,...mechanically the same, mentally worlds apart

I wanted to bump this cause all year I was having trouble with my driver. I decided to go back to 430 cc driver and felt way more comfortable with the ball located of my left heel.

I usually dont think about ball position all that much and play what i feel comfortable with but my driver was giving me fits this year

and i decided to go back to a smaller head driver and play the ball more like my 3w ball position which is off my left instep.
