It's not like we're going to discover something new about them. On the other hand, I'd like to see Venturi get in. He only misses by a whisker for his playing record, and his work in the booth should surely put him over the top. I liked him far more than Miller or Faldo or any of today's crop, and I thought his interview was the best episode of Feherty's show.

I confess that I hadn't heard of Von Nida before today, probably because he made no impact in the US, and his winning career was almost over by the time I was born. Looking at his record, it seems like he should be in the Australian HOF, but I'm not so sure about the World HOF. It looks like he did most of his winning against the severely depleted fields of post-war Britain and Australia, which I gig even Hogan and Snead for when I look at career records.

David Duval... He's 40.  He hasn't had a win since 2001.  So he didn't win a tournament - anywhere - during what should've been his prime.  I just think it is strange to see his name on that list... Because he has struggled to retain his tour card, and has been playing on sponsorship/exemptions for quite sometime.

Duval won 13 times including a major in a four year period.  It took Fred Couples 15 years to get to that record--I use Couples because I'm sure he'll be voted in and Duval won't

What should the standard for the hall of fame? I know Ernie Els is in with 18 PGA wins, 3 majors, and a bunch of euro wins. Mark O'Mera was close with 16 wins,2 majors and a couple of euroevents but most of the rest of the guys are all like 10-15 pga wins and 1 or 2 majors. That really doesn't seem like a HOF career to me. DL III does have 20 wins and  1 major so I think I could myself into him but do guys like Duval with 13 wins an 1 major belong?

I am not as sure about the euro guys. Colin M. seems like a guy that belongs with his 7 orders of merit but zero majors and zero PGA wins seems like a big negative. Padraig is another guy I am on the fence about. 3 Majors is enough but only 2 other pga wins and a bunch euro ones makes you a borderline guy at best.  Same thing for Retief.   Most of the rest I can't take seriously.  If your career stats might not win player of the year on the PGA tour (darren clarke 3 wins 1 major), I find it hard to believe you belong in the hall of fame.

The bar is much too low for some of these guys to be on the list.  Sticker shouldn't be on there either.

I just did an internet check. Loren Roberts won 8 tournaments on the PGA Tour, no majors - that's HOF credentials?

Now granted, he has won 13 times on the Champions Tour, but still...

Don't get me wrong... Duval was dominant for that span.  It is just strange to see his career fizzle like it did.  And then see his name on the HoF ballot.  I'd say Couples at least was consistent over a long period of time.  Outside of Couples back injury setbacks... He was consistent.

I think Ernie deserves it... O'Mera and DL3 are on the bubble for me.  No way I'd put Duval into the HoF for the simple fact that he was a flash in the pan.  I think to be considered to the HoF... You should have multiple majors and at least 15 additional PGA tour wins.  Now... If you really wanted to split hairs... I'd say at least 2 majors and 10 PGA tour wins... Followed by 5 to 10 Champions tour wins.  Throw in some other accomplishments like Junior Amateur wins, Ryder / President cups... And I think those things could help as well.

But if you have zero majors... No way.
