Grounds crew at the PGA events

I think it's amazing how well the grounds crew get the courses together for the PGA tour.  Over the past weekend, I'm sure we all heard about the severe storms that tore through Congressional last week.  These same storms also hit Greenbrier and that talk was that it was hit much worse than Congressional.  The grounds crew at Congressional put in a lot of work to get the course back in shape to allow a gallery to catch the final round.  Now it's Monday, the start of Greenbrier's week of golf, will the course be ready?

"The whole place got hit pretty daggum hard," he said. "We've got about 50 200-year old trees that are down across the grounds."

"We have the chance to make this into one of our finest moments," he said. "Everything will be repaired before tournament. To me, it is just not acceptable that on Monday we not have every single thing the way it was as if this never happened. That can't be a goal. It just has to be a reality."

It's hard to believe that they can get this all cleaned up over the weekend, but with the help of volunteers, it looks like The Greenbrier Classic will go on as scheduled.

It's amazing what work can be done when you set your mind to it.  The grounds crew and all volunteers should get quite a bit of praise for a job well done in these situations.  That's a lot to tackle under a lot of pressure.

One thing people don't realize is the danger involved in clearing away large trees blown down in a storm. The limbs sometimes get twisted underneath the trunks, and can snap up and hit workers when someone starts cutting one up with a chain saw.

VERY dangerous!  My friend's dad got killed clearing trees.
