Hi first post. Ive been playing for a few years and am getting a new set of clubs. The ones I have now are a stiff shaft and I have a very difficult time controlling them so I am going to buy some reg shaft clubs. I'm looking at the callaway razr fit driver just wondering if I should get a 9.5 or 10.5. I have an average swing speed and am looking for control rather than distance.

I'd recommend the 10.5.  Choosing a less lofted driver will make it harder to control.  Also, if you have a stiff shaft now and an "average" swing speed choose a regular shaft in your new driver.  You'll notice an immediate difference.

Thanks. The rest of the set I'm thinking of getting is razr hawk 3w 5w razr x hl 4h 5h and raze x hl irons 6-sw all shafts either reg or uniflex. What are you're thoughts on the make up of this set?

one of the better players on this board uses a 12 degree driver.     Honestly, it's only 1 degree of loft difference - not enough to get carried away about, but I always struggle with too high a ball off the driver & a 9.5 works best for me.     My bro hits a 13 degree driver with a nice low tragectory & usually outdrives me.      It's the swing, not the driver loft ultimately that shapes the shot (most will say the shaft has more to do with ball flight than the loft anyways)  ...

Joseph,

I would take a little time, if you haven't already done so, and get fitted or measure your swing speed, etc. If you are currently having trouble with control with the stiff shafts, then just like NuclearMike stated, the regular flex will certainly help. I used to hit a 12 degree Callaway Super Steel Plus Driver before moving to an Adams Tight Lies High Launch Max COR 10.5 degree. Although I was consistent with the Callaway, there was a limit to the max distance I could achieve, so that's when I changed to a lower lofted club. I would recommend getting the higher lofted 10.5 as it will more than likely be easier to control and you'll probably wind up in the fairway more often than not.

Happy Golfing,

George

IF your swing is fairly stable - not perfect, just stable - now would be a good time to get a dynamic fitting on your entire set. It would take several hours, but it would show you what head AND shaft combos your need for your game.

One thing you'd get in a full fitting is a gap analysis. This tests for the longest numbered iron you can hit well (maybe a 5i), and then replaces the longer irons (3i, 4i) with hybrids. Also, it meshes the fairway woods and hybrids.

If you can't buy everything at once, don't worry... You'll have the specs on what you need, and you can fill in a couple of items at Christmas if you can't buy everything at once.

    • Day 23: weird day, and only had a little bit of time. Just did mirror work again, working on where the elbow is in the downswing
    • I flipped over to this tonight and thoroughly enjoyed it. Anyone else watch? I picked it up during the golf relay event, but seeing these pros out having fun in alternative events was refreshing and entertaining. I’m sure it will be on in reruns in the next week or so, so I won’t spoil the outcome. Im curious what others thought of it. I’m recording it’s later airing to see the beginning.
    • Day 443 - 2025-12-17 Made a few swings in testing some things out at another academy. Might pop up on someone else's podcast in a few weeks.
    • Day 37 (17 Dec 25) - nine hole round with my good friend.  We got paired up with a couple of the men’s group regulars as part of their shootout.  Started off with a wonderful quad bogie and then a dbl on three to be six over thru three holes.  Game went 180° over the next five as I shot one under (including a chip in birdie on hole six and four up and down 1 putt pars) for a net finish of five over. What could have been a really tough nine became a solid finish due to staying in the moment and not checking out.  Great day in course management and keeping perspective .
    • Day 127 12-17 Backswing and flow practice. Took advantage of the 60 degeee weather(it was 20 degrees Sunday)
