Hi,

Been watching a few clips of my swing and noticed one major fault (amongst others) which i do not know how to fix. My hips are not turning at all at impact and my right foot is not pivoting. Therefore, when i turn into my follow through, when my hips eventually catch up, my left leg/knee bends towards the target.

Help is gratefully recieved...

You probably start your downswing with an arm movement, its actually supposed to start with a slight hip turn, because you are suppposed to maintain your coil as long as possible before you hit the ball. Practice stopping at the top, and starting your downswing by beginning to turn your hips instead of your arms.

Remember don't exaggerate it ^^

While I still struggle with it, the pro I go to for lessons has started having me initate the downswing by driving my right knee (righthanded swing...when doing it don't dip though, it is more of an unloading of weight which has no where esle to go but your left side) at the ball, this shifts my weight and starts the hip turn. If I can ever learn to keep my shoulders back when doing this, like when I do it in slow motion, I think it will work out great.

If all else fails find a pro that you like and they will help get you on the right track.

Hey, you're a 10 handicapper and that means you have played some pretty good golf already, so you know all there is to know about great balance, posture, finish positions, weight transfer, etc etc, right?

You don't become a 10 handicapper without the basics.

One of the basics is to have your weight transfer to your left side, making a turn towards your target as you strike the ball.

A lot of people though, don't have anywhere to turn FROM because they didn't move their weight to their right side during the backswing.

To practise this, you have to overdo it a little. Grab a club, assume your address position (make sure no lamps or other household furniture is in the way!) and start your backswing, being conscious of shifting your weight to the inside of your right foot, yeah, go on, quite a lot of weight!

At the top of your backswing your head should be about 8 inches to the right of where you started - ( I said we were gonna overdo this!!)

Now you have somewhere to START your downswing from. Right!

GO FOR IT!!

Shift the hips to the left, let those arms come down, get onto your left leg, turn, straighten the left leg up and BAM!!!! The ball is gone and you are all the way onto your left side, feeling like Freddy Couples.........ok?

OK - practice this move at home and then when you get onto the range again, trim is all back so there isn't so much disco going on, but feel that there is some place to go TO on your backswing, and then some place to go TO, with a turn, on your downswing.

Good luck!! Jeez, 10 handicappers need help!!!!!!!!!!

Here is what I teach as a proper hip turn. I hope this gives you some insight.

Equipment, Setup, Finish, Balance, and Relax. All equal in importance and all dependent on each other. They are the cornerstones of a good golf swing.

This hip turn diagram makes perfect sense to me. When I get the hips turning first on the downswing, even a slow, smoothe swing slams into the back of the ball with great results. But I am looking for a swing-thought or a move that will consistently get the hips moving. Sometimes it feels as if I don't have anything for the hips to "push off of." Or something like that. Any thoughts out there? thanks

Here is another diagram of just the backswing hip turn and an example of some incorrect proceedures.

Ahhh crap.. it requires the viewer to have an accnt with google. I was hoping it didn't require that.

That's right all I see is a red x

I doubt its my internet firewall
