Hi Everyone,

I wanted to know what degree of a hybrid would be a good fit between a 3 iron and a 3 wood?  I thought putting a hybrid in that spot would be better than a 5 wood since it can double as a rescue club.

Thanks all!

It would all depend on what degree your 3w and 3i are.

Google tells me your 3i is a 21* and your 3w is a 15*, so look for an 18* club.

This is all assuming your lie angles are stock.

The Wilson Staff DX-I 19* hybrid is absolutely fantastic and fits where you need it. I also have an 18* 5 wood, but its 1 1/2 inches longer, so it slots just past my 3H in distance by 15 yards. I take the 5wood out when I want to add the 2 iron.

In the Ogio Kingpin bag:

Titleist 913 D2 9.5* w/ UST Mamiya ATTAS 3 80 w/ Harrison Shotmaker & Billy Bobs afternarket Hosel Adaptor (get this if you don't have it for your 913)
Wilson Staff Ci-11 4-GW (4I is out of the bag for a hybrid, PW and up were replaced by Edel Wedges)
TaylorMade RBZ 5 & 3 Fairway Woods

Cobra Baffler T-Rail 3 & 4 Hybrids

Edel Forged 48, 52, 56, 60, and 64* wedges (different wedges for different courses)

Seemore Si-4 Black Nickel Putter

For an 18 ° hybrid I recommend the Taylormade R11.  Adjustable +/- 1 ° for loft and face angle.  Never been a fan of the brand before I bought my (hardly) used set, but these are keepers!

My MacGregor mht 3 hybrid is 19* and my rbz 5 wood is also 19*.

The difference is that the 5 wood is about 1.5-2 inches longer.

I guess it could make sense to replace the 5 wood with a 2 hybrid. but I would think the 5 wood would tend to be a bit more forgiving. I guess you may be able to control the shorter shaft of the hybrid a bit more... I still think I would go with a 5 wood over the hybrid, but that's just me, I would have to hit the 2 hybrid side by side with the 5 wood and compare with my 3 hybrid and 3 wood and see where my distances are and what the trajectory differences were. Unless I were playing in a lot of wind where a lower launch would be better, I don't see the 2 hybrid as being the right club.

I love my 3 and 4 hybrid, they have allowed me to hit greens from outside 200 yards that I would not have gone for before I had them, or at least not had a high percentage shot at hitting. I am more confident with them out of the rough, and I think because of them I am more confident to hit 3 and 5 wood out of the fairway and light rough. There is a 560y par 5 on the course I play, straight away, and down hill for the first 375 yards. If I hit a good drive I have about 220-230 left and I can easily reach with 3 or 4 hybrid depending on wind and such... I would like to get my hands on a range finder and get a real distance on the hole, because 330 off the tee seems a bit better then I would expect, but my swing speed it right around 110 so downhill 330 I guess is not out of the question.

Anyway I am not sure that the 2h is better or worse then the 5w. I say hit them both and go with the one you are more consistent with and gives you the distance you want.

I suck at hitting any fairway club..... off the tee, from the fairway, or from the cabbage.  So my 2H has replaced my 4W.  I couldn't see a reason to keep a club in the bag that I never pulled, so the 16° 2H made more sense.  It's working good so far.

Yeh I suspect my swing work with a fairway wood needs work.  I have really hit some nice shots with my 3W but its not an overall confidence inspirer.  I really want something that will give me a high percentage shot around the 210-215 yardage mark. I tend to hit my 3 iron about 180-185 and my 3W usually goes about 220-225 (when hit well).
