I've played with an X wedge for a few years and I thought it was a growing trend. It seems like it never caught on based on the number of companies not making them and the number of players not playing them. Is anyone else using an X wedge? I hit mine so rarely that I'm considering replacing it with a fairway wood. Just wondering if others have tried the X wedge and gone back or never tried it at all.

I don't know too many players who carry a 64 degree wedge. Actually I don't know of too many tour players who carry one either. Mickelson, Paddy Harrington (I think) but there aren't too many. I did have one a long time ago in high school and it suprisingly worked pretty well for me but I had to practice those flop shots with it a lot and wouldn't think of carrying one now. I see your handicap is a "Bazillion" so I'd think you'd get more use out of an extra fairway wood, hybrid or a different wedge, say a gap wedge. I'm not even totally sold on carrying a 60 degree wedge either.

I actually carry a gap wedge and a lob wedge. I was sold on the Pelz 4 wedge system for a while, and it worked well for me. But now I feel like carrying 5 wedges is over kill, and I can probably make the same shots with my 60 as I do with my 64 if I open it up a little. The fact that I don't like hitting it full, or even 3/4 full also makes me ready to ditch it. The more I think about it, the more I realize that the few times that I could really use the 64, I don't trust myself to hit it well. That's it. It's gone. Now I can change my handicap to half a bazillion.

Yeah, 5 wedges seems like over kill to me. I imagine, carrying that many wedges you'd have some big distance gaps with your longer clubs. Plus I think 60 is plenty of loft to hit those flop shots.

Now I can change my handicap to half a bazillion.

Good luck!

For a while I justified it by saying that I could not carry a 4 iron and just choke down on a 7 wood when I need to hit it 200, but I have missed the 4 iron.

If Golf Galaxy had a 64 degree wedge (they only had one, by Cleveland, and it wasn't in stock) the day I was looking for a high loft wedge, I would've probably gone for it. I have a pretty low trajectory with my irons, and I can never hold a green with my pitching wedge because it comes out too hot and too low. I'm using a 60 degree Mizuno, but there are still occasions where I hit a flop shot, and the ball rolls off the green.

Played a round yesterday without the X wedge and have to say I didn't miss it. I did hit a killer flop shot with my lob wedge, and I hit the 7 wood a few times, most of them well.

According to your sig, you don't carry a sand wedge. What do you hit 100 yards? My sand wedge is my go to club. I played a round the other day with the SW that matches my iron set and had to put it back in the closet. There's nothing like having a magic wedge that you can hit 100 yards and stick it every time. In fact, here I go. Stand back.

Ode to a Sand Wedge Oh Sandy, how I love thee. All covered in rust with a shiny face. Thou dost spin like a mutha. Just because you aren't a Cleveland or a Vokey, Doesn't diminish my love for you. Much.

i played around with a 64 deg wedge and i found that if i just got a 60 deg with a sole grind on it i could open up the face enough to play a flop shot without skulling the ball. for me though the key is to get a wedge with a sole grind, i went from a cleveland cg10 to the ping tour wedge with the t grind and have been loving it.

With anything from 50 yards in, I use my 60 degree wedge. Its money for flopping the ball into the air and landing it soft on the green. I don't use my sand wedge out of a tight lie because of the bounce. I have a tendency to hit it super thin, leaving me with a low screamer that would never hold a green.

    • I've been putting whilst looking at the hole and it's definitely helped my distance control
    • I wonder if that is why my home course basically have no stakes now.  Not even markers.  It’s completely up to golfers to remember what is OB and hazard and how things used to be marked.     Even in tournaments, there is no marking and certain areas are played differently by different golfers who either don’t know better or use it to their advantage funny reading thru this with courses that actually have markers
    • is it though?????? "Millions of fans"?????
    • Great post, thanks for the informaiton. I try to avoid adding salt to anything I eat. I tend to add pepper on to my meals as opposed to salt. And I am trying to eat as clean on possible. On golf day, I eat 3 eggs for breakfast (pepper NO salt) and a salad for lunch, with grilled chicken thigs (pepper, garlic, no salt). I have been trying to avoid processed food, but we all slip. I also should have mentioned that the electrolyte packet calls for mixing with 16 oz of water, however I mix in 32 oz of water, so I dilute the electrolyte powder.
    • So if I read the news correctly, the PIF will not fund LIV after this season.  LIV is trying to find new funding and a number of players there are now asking about getting back to the Tour.    I am very, very concerned that Taylor Gooch will not have a place where he can make a jackass out of himself soon
