I've been looking at and buying Callaway HEX Chrome balls this week. They are my new ball for a few dozen.

Suddenly today, I notice HEX Blacks have dropped in price on an on-line golf site. They are less than the HEX Chromes. Even Golfsmith has them marked at 40% off or $27.30 (was $45.99). Chromes are still $35.99 at Golfsmith. Golf Galaxy has not changed the prices yet.

1. Are they planning a new release? Discontinuing this ball?

2. If my swing speed is about 95-103 MPH with my driver, what differences should I expect between the Chrome and the Black?

See the thread: http://thesandtrap.com/t/60792/callaway-drops-price-of-razr-fit-driver-for-ernie-els-win-at-the-open-championship/0_30

Callaway in honor of Els win at the Open dropped the price of Razr Fit drivers and Hex Black balls.  Razr Fit driver is $273.00 and Hex Black balls are $27.30.   It's a promotion to publicize Els win using Callaway clubs so pretty certain it's not because they intend to release a new ball.  I ordered a dozen to try them out, so I'm not sure how they differ from the Hex Chrome.

And, Ernie's total score was 273, so that's why they chose the prices they did.

I'm in the same boat with the swing speed, average 105 (generally play the NXT Tour).  But I have played a sleeve of the HEX Black and they are a great ball.  Best short game ball I've played.  The NXT Tour just suites me a little better overall.  I just picked up 2 dozen of the HEX Black at Dick's though, based on the great price.

That being said, you'll probably notice a little difference in regard to compressing of the ball.  But other than that, I think you'll be happy with them.

Let us know what you think!

    • Not the last thing I bought or bought anything at all but Sun Day Red stuff seems a bit overpriced for it essentially being rebranded Nike apparel. I'm hearing the resale prices are wild though. Either way, I highly doubt I will indulge as I'm not much of a brand guy or a collector. But to keep up my super nice guy image have never turned down a gift though 😇 Tiger doesn't seem to sell stuff like MJ or Kanye did.

    • Please provide feedback when you have some experience under your belt if you don't mind. I have an older model I don't use. I have a TSR driver that I am giving a second go for a few rounds, but that's another story.
