i used to fight a hook so i changed my grip from being really strong to a little weaker. Lately i have noticed that i have been hitting the ball higher than normal with my driver as well as alot shorter (about 30 yards). i used to be the longest driver in my 4 some but now i have fallen back to getting out driven by everyone. I have also begun hitting a tiny bit of a fade as well. my golf partners have told me its because i was getting to much back spin so i went in to my local golf fitter.

There they put me on a launch monitor and i was getting spin rates around the 4000s( way too high i was told). I have about a 108 swing speed and launch the ball around 12-14 degrees. With my numbers i was told that i should try to get my rates down closer to the mid 3000s since with my swing speed i should be hitting the ball closer to 280 or 290 instead of hitting it a maximum of 260. I was told that a new shaft might help me but i am not sure about making that kind of investment when i am not sure how big of an impact it would have. I currently have a rocketballz 10.5 with a stock stiff shaft.

my questions are:

How can i lower my spin rates into a more manageable range?

Would investing in a non stock shaft with with a less active tip help me hit the ball lower with less spin?

any help on this issue would be great thanks guys

Launch angle is good but spinning it way too much.  I'd say it's more your swing than the shaft.  I would bet your angle of attack is down too much.  Try this

- Play the ball off your left toe

- Push the hips a few inches forward at set-up

- Have the handle raised (from dtl view).  Butt of the club will point just below your belly button.  Feel like the handle is still "raised" at impact.

Check out this video, this is more of an exaggeration but gives you an idea of what I'm taking about to shallow the AoA

    • Day 22: mirror work for a while. Working on my elbow in the downswing - keeping it in a better position.
    • Day 36 (16 Dec 25) - continued the exaggerated left foot weight shift trigger adding some easy low flighted pitches with the 5h and a few putting style bump and runs with the 5h as well.
    • Day 442 - 2025-12-16 Got some swings in at an indoor academy a little south of Erie.
    • Has anyone played the new Maxfli forged irons? For the first time in I don't know how many years, they have come out with new clubs. From what I read, Maxfli was bought by Taylor Made a long time ago which then took all of their ball making technology and patents in order to get into that market. The club business was left to whither and the reorganized company, now a part of Dicks / Golfworks / Maltby, is producing these new clubs. (Their Tour X balls which I play are really good.) Anyway, I tried them both out at Golf Galaxy. There's a player's distance iron (XC-3) and a blade (XC-2) and both feel really, really nice, almost "Mizuno-like" in their soft buttery feel and they're a bargain at $800 for a set. I'm planning to ditch my Titleist's and want to go back to a forged iron. I almost pulled the trigger on the Mizuno Pro-245's last summer, but a damaged tendon sheath in my finger combined with a back injury messed up my golf game so I held off. Now the Pro-245's are no longer available, soon to be replaced by the MX-15. (At twice the price of the Maxfli's...that's what got my attention in the first place.) If anyone has played with the new Maxfli's or just tried them out like I did, let me know what you think.
