Who else out there doesn't play nearly as much golf as you want, and rarely gets to play with the folks they most enjoy playing with?

I'm sooooo excited.  On Weds/Thurs, two of my best friends are coming to Hawaii.  We're playing six rounds in six days at five different Oahu courses (we'll also be fishing and drinking a lot of beer).

I move a lot; I maintain a close group of really good friends, but I only see them a few times a year.  The more senior I get in my profession, the harder it becomes to make new friends with each move.  I'm also relatively newly married (3 years) and have a 16-month old daughter, so I feel lucky to get in my usual 1-round per week, but it wasn't too long ago that I could play whenever I wanted.

This is going to be the best week of golf I've had since my last year of law school, 8 years ago.  And I've been hitting it really well, too.

I usually play with my brothers,i have played with stranger but didnt really enjoy it,probably because the guy was playing as though the world was about to end {hit hit, hit, putt, next hole}else i'll play on my own,i prefer to relax and have fun,and obviously you can be yourself with close friends or family

About 4 years ago I started going on a golf/drinking outing with a great group of guys, an annual affair which I should have started on years ago, and regret that.  That first year I had only occasionally hit a golf ball, and it showed.  Last year I took 2 lessons just so I could swing a club.  I hit a couple of good shots in this scramble tournament and became hooked.  This year I've taken a few lessons, practiced on the range, and now typically walk 9 holes at least once a week at a local muni.  I thank all those guys for introducing me to this game.  But I digress...

This outing started by a few guys who went to college together.  One of their fathers mentioned that, as they grow older, they will have fewer and fewer times to get together, and that someone should start an annual event to get them together.  From there, they brought friends, who brought friends, and now the group can be 25 - 30 guys showing up.

So k-troop, try to start an annual outing now, before you drift apart too much.

    • that is an excellent approach. I did that with my last set. I made a few 7 irons from different heads and shafts. Getting a feel for how they play on the course is the right idea. Let us know how it goes.
    • I’m glad the USGA booted some of the hecklers. It’s getting out of hand. I wish the networks wouldn’t mic the crowd to give those idiots a platform.
    • New member here, and I have decided to upgrade my clubs. I have been playing for a long time but these last 10 years I have had to put four kids through college. So I've played a few rounds a year and some years have not played at all. I am currently playing Titleist 716 AP2's with Rifle 6.5 steel shafts and Winn grips. I used to hit my 7 iron around 165 yds until just 5 years ago. I turned 62 this year and noticed I can barely get my 7 iron to 145 yds. I went for a fitting to try out some new player distance irons. I don't think I need game improvement irons because I'm pretty straight and rarely try to work a ball (if I'm working a ball, then I most definetely did something wrong to get there). I tried a bunch of irons (Callaway, Mizuno, PXG, Taylormade, Srixon, Ping, and Titleist) and I kept coming back to the Ping and Titleist. They just felt right and really looked good when lining up a shot. The Ping, by far, went the longest of all the irons. The Titleist was a close second in distance. Both felt buttery smooth through impact. I was wondering if anyone else has any experience with these irons. I was getting 160 yds with a nice smooth swing (81 mph swing speed). I know I'm asking a lot of my clubs but my last fitting was 27 years ago and I ended up with some Cleveland TA3's or TA2's forged irons with Dynamic Gold S300 (swing speed 87 mph). I really love the feel of my AP2's and the place I'm going to purchase from is going to make a 7 iron in both Ping and Titleist for me to test on real grass. I'm pretty certain it's going to be either one. They're both identical in price for a set of 5-PW. I'm going to forego a 4 iron and get another 4 hybrid to go along with my 3 hybrid. Any and all replies are welcome.
    • Day 47, June 22.  After work today, I spent 20 minutes in my indoor practice room, hitting about as many balls.  Slow, as slow as I could, 6-iron swings, same priority piece as the past month.
