closing clubface on takeaway

I was readry to give up the driver , since I was hitting everything from low duck hooks to big pushes . Experimented with turning my hands down slightly on the takeaway , vs basically no hand movement on way back and I was killing the drives . What gives ? and is the hand positioning a bad thing ?

You said it yourself, you're killing it

You very well could have been taking the clubhead too far inside the hands on the takeaway.  The "closing the face" just helped things line up better because it would slow the rotation of the forearms.

I do that with all clubs except wedges and putter of course
