Well, im gonna be so jelous right away, because my father is getting new irons and i kind of want to help him out. He is about 54, hes starting to get into the 3/4 swing because of his age and he needs some new irons. Right now he has these 20 yr old irons that has horrible grips so we need something that is forgiving, easy to hit and is mostly for seniors. Do you guys have anything in mind for about a 13 handicapper, 55 yrs of age, 3/4 Swing etc. What kind of flex would you suggest and would graphite or steel be the way to go? Thanks loads.

Get thee to a club fitter with ye old man young lad.

That would be the best advice. 54 isn't very senior and he might be able to swing steel. Good luck!

If he's having trouble swinging fully then I would definately look into some graphite shafts, but get the regular flex. The guys at the local edwin watts shop have been preaching about the new callaway x-20's. Personally, I'd go with the standard big bertha's due to the extreme forgivness i've been reading about.

My grandfather was playing with some ping graphite shafts, not sure wich ones, but he was about a 15 handicap, and also only swung with his right arm after his stroke. On the other hand callawaypreowned.com has some '04 big bertha's in the senior model for pretty cheap. Like silver said, have the club fitter at the local proshop do some measurements and velocity tests, he'll get him set up right.
I'm only at 13 clubs in the bag, what do you reccomend as a 14th? My foot wedge?

I know the perfect set, my dad used to play with them before he "retired" from golf (he sucked, so he quit). Anyway, they're Callaway Big Bertha (2002 model), regular flex graphite shaft, winn grips. Big club head to help make solid contact, graphite shafts to help lighten the clubs and increase club head speed. Perfect for the older man

Oh yeah, I can have them shipped to you by the end of the week! $125 3-PW

stop with the 54 being old, 60 used to be my grandparents and now it's my friends.

I'll bet at a 13 he can hit anything you can there whipper snapper.
20 year old clubs and bad grips? I'll bet he gets to an 8 with any new gear.
Have him try the new Cleveland yellows
