Went to the local executive course today and I showed up at 5:45 pm, about 15 minutes after the starter closed.  I talked to an employee and asked him if he minded that I went out anyway, seeing as how there was at least 2 hours of usable daylight left.  He said no, I was welcome to go play.  As a result, I played 18 holes of free golf.

It was phenomenal, I had the entire course to myself and was really able to focus on my game and each hole.  Needless to say, I will be satisfying my mid-week golf fix at this course for free from now on.

This made me think that there are other people out there who likely have had similar experiences and/or have found ways to play golf and/or practice on the cheap, or even for free.  Anyone care to share their tips for making golf more affordable for everyone?

This may have worked this time but I would be hesistant to think they'll let you do it on a consistent basis.  Unless, of course, the employee told you that up front.  Hopefully I am wrong though and you continue to get to play golf weekly for free!

Believe me, I am crossing my fingers I get to keep playing golf for free.  Hell, even if I get away with it once a week I would be happy.  When I asked whether I could head out, the employee smiled and said "I can't tell you to go out and I can't tell you not to go out."  I was pretty much floored at that point.  As I headed out onto the course I also noticed a handful of other golfers tee off after me.  No doubt they have also figured this out.

The course that I play has twilight rates starting at 4pm - $15 for cart and all you can play. I love it. Things are tough financially right now so I've got to scrimp wherever. I do a lot of practice at home and try to get to the range at least once a week. I also look for stuff that I don't use anymore to sell to add $$$$ to my "golf fund".....does anyone need any fishing gear? Used only once.....

DCI Gold 3- PW(48*) + 52* Vokey wedge

56* sand wedge

    • Day 22: mirror work for a while. Working on my elbow in the downswing - keeping it in a better position.
    • Day 36 (16 Dec 25) - continued the exaggerated left foot weight shift trigger adding some easy low flighted pitches with the 5h and a few putting style bump and runs with the 5h as well.
    • Day 442 - 2025-12-16 Got some swings in at an indoor academy a little south of Erie.
    • Has anyone played the new Maxfli forged irons? For the first time in I don't know how many years, they have come out with new clubs. From what I read, Maxfli was bought by Taylor Made a long time ago which then took all of their ball making technology and patents in order to get into that market. The club business was left to whither and the reorganized company, now a part of Dicks / Golfworks / Maltby, is producing these new clubs. (Their Tour X balls which I play are really good.) Anyway, I tried them both out at Golf Galaxy. There's a player's distance iron (XC-3) and a blade (XC-2) and both feel really, really nice, almost "Mizuno-like" in their soft buttery feel and they're a bargain at $800 for a set. I'm planning to ditch my Titleist's and want to go back to a forged iron. I almost pulled the trigger on the Mizuno Pro-245's last summer, but a damaged tendon sheath in my finger combined with a back injury messed up my golf game so I held off. Now the Pro-245's are no longer available, soon to be replaced by the MX-15. (At twice the price of the Maxfli's...that's what got my attention in the first place.) If anyone has played with the new Maxfli's or just tried them out like I did, let me know what you think.
