Hi everyone, newbie here... Great site I hope someone can help me

I've decided I need to sort my distance issues out... I drive around 240 carry with my driver... my club head speed is around the 100mph mark and I feel totally capped at this speed... I'm starting to suspect that it's just my body and that I won't ever beable to drive it further than this, but I'm still hoping that maybe there's a problem with my technique, maybe some power loss somewhere.

Well here's a not too goo quality video of my swing, thanks for watching and hope to hear some opinions.

Thanks

OK..

For some reason, today, I realised where I am loosing alot of power. I had been swinging round my body rather than taking an upward path with my hands and arms from the takeaway...

I have tried this out and there is some definite distance and striking improvement... like I hit the best 7-iron of my life tonight.

it feels that now rather than my wrists lagging around my body as they come down from the backswing, it's more like my hands and club are taking a path almost vertical, this has given me so much more potential for wrist action its unreal.

I have just scored a 2 under par gross round my local course, and I could have easily scored 3-4 less than this...

My drives did seem slightly longer, but the difference now is that it feels like I have so much more room/ potential to add more power to my swing.

I would have thought there was plenty of power in that swing. It looks to me like a really good natural swing to me.

Taking the above advice may lead to destruction of your golf game. Laughing at it may reduce stress.

Hey thanks,

I feel like I have made some progress, it feels so much easier from the position I am at the top, swinging round the body really is bad for me... it feels so limited compared to what I've been feeling today.

I just confirmed tonight that I have lost over 20+ mph in club head speed with my 6 iron.  To make a long story short I will bullet the time line of my swing.

-Hitting my old irons pretty solid but decide to buy a newer set.

-During my club fitting I was hitting a 6 iron (same ones as my current) between 91-94 mph club head speed.

-Got a really bad case of the shanks that lasted about 6 weeks.

-Cured my shanks but lost 3 club lengths or more on each iron.

-Confirmed this by going back to golf smith and measured my 6 iron at 68 mph club head speed (my fastest).

I'm absolutely amazed that I was able to lose this much club head speed in 1.5 months.  The 91-94 was when I felt the most comfortable with my swing so that probably isn't sustainable but there is no reason to lose that much power.  I'm absolutely lost on how to approach this problem.

This happened to me after the shanks too. I was hitting rather than swinging. Think this was a mental issue brought by worry about more shanks. My cure was loosen arms and grip, swing the club and accelerate through the shot Hope this helps

    • I am currently playing a Cobra Ltdx LS 9 degree driver and Cobra Ltdx LS FW3. Both with Tensei White stock stiff shafts and original weights of 12g (heel) and 3g (toe). My miss is usually a pull fade or sometimes a slice, swing is out to in. Driver swing speed about 112 mph. Grips are stock regular. Intended change: Driver: Switching to Tensei White x-flex one inch shorter which I suppose would be 44,5? Changing heel weight to 18g. Changing grip to Golf Pride Z-grip cord midsize. Change hosel setting to standard draw. FW3: Changing heel weight to 16g (apparently not available in FW weights, but supposed to be something called "internal weight" a club builder can add which fits between the weight and the screw?). Change grip to Golf Pride Z-grip cord midsize. Changing hosel setting to standard +1. The goal is to 1) get better grip since I tend so lose grip in warm and moist conditions with the current grips and 2) mitigate the misses to start more straight with less side spin. Also considering adding the Cobra Ltdx LS FW5 instead of my old Taylormade R9 and getting 14g heel and 6g toe weights with the same grip as the others and hosel setting standard +1.   All of the above is based on conversations with ChatGPT and, as everyone knows, it can come up with pretty much whatever but I spent a few hours asking about different perspectives etc and this was the recommendation. So, my question is basically, does it make any sense?   Thanks.
