Practicing sand shots at the beach with birdie balls -a good or bad idea?

I have access to a deserted beach during the winter months. I was thinking about practicing sand shots on the beach. You can find different types of sand depending on how far from the water you go. Hard wet to soft and fluffy.

I thought birdie balls would keep them from going too far on mishits.

What do you think of this idea?

If its really deserted and you have the room I would hit real golf balls. If you blade on you may have to walk a little further to find it but I would rather get the feel of hitting a real ball. It does sounds like a great idea to improve your bunker skills over the off season.

I always bring a wedge and a couple of cheap golf balls with me when I go to a lake or beach. A firepit makes a great landing target, so long as there isn't currently a fire and/or hot coals in it.

Sounds like a great Idea I do not have access to a beach but have lots of sand maybe I will build my own trap.
