Just wondered how this fella is viewed stateside by the American gold fans? For about 10 years us Brits have seen quite a lot of him on out golf  TV coverage. He works for Sky sports on the Majors, WGC, Ryder cup and some big tour events as a summarizer and commentator. Always come across as a nice fella and never biased towards the US players although you never know if he is just doing that because he knows he is getting viewed in the UK .  Even has good things to say about Tiger even though I have always got the impression he is a bit bitter about getting sacked by him all those years ago

He's an affable guy who seems to absolutely nail half of what makes a great instructor: a great communicator and a likable guy.

I wish we had his commentary here. It couldn't be much worse than what we have and is likely to be a good bit better.

They get Butch and we get Sir Nick. Funny how that worked out. I guess everyone wants something a little exotic.

Yours in earnest, Jason.

Sometimes what isn't said has a lot more meaning than what is said.

I believe that this qualifies in the back-handed compliment category?

Possibly the most self centered arrogant person I have heard on the tele, his attitude towards Tiger since he started working for Sky sports has been a disgrace. Talking about him like he is a 10 handicapper at times

Totally agree, his "I'm so proud of Olly" and "Me and Olly are very good friends you know" at the end of the Ryder Cup was amongst the most excruciating TV I have ever seen.

Brings absolutely nothing good to the coverage.

Well, self centred you possibly have to be to win seven European titles. Arrogant?, never thought that as he has plenty of time for other golfers. So he bangs on how he captained the Ryder Cup, why he was a very good Captain (what I done etc). He was! Regarding Tiger, all he is saying is compared to his pomp he is pretty well an ordinary golfer. He has never suggested he is a handicap golfer, thats just your spin .

Yeah, I wouldnt have gone that far Red. Id say that Monty is more of an acquired taste when it comes to commentary ;)

    • Is it? I bought the Stack radar to replace my PRGR based on what Stack told me! When I am swinging for speed, the PRGR would miss 50%-80% of my backswings due to a higher speed. The stack seldom misses those- at least for me.
    • As an analyst by nature, I would like to compare the scores under both systems. It is something we can easily do if we have the data. I actually thought the new system was less fair to those whose game was on the decline - like mine! Old: Best 10 of last 20 scores with the .96 multiplier. Course handicap excluded course rating and overall par. New: Best 8/20. Course handicap includes course rating -par. My understanding is Stableford caps scores at Net double bogey like stroke play. If so, handicap should be slower to rise because you are only using 8 versus 10 scores. If I am missing something, I am curious enough to  want to understand what that may be. My home course tees that I play are 72.1/154 now. My best score out here is 82. When my game started to decline, my handicap didn’t budge for 13 rounds because of good scores in my first 8! I know I am an anomaly but my handicap has increased almost 80% in the past few years (with only a few rounds this year). For a few months I knew I was losing every bet because my game was nowhere near my handicap. I suspect I have steamrolled a few nuances but that shouldn’t matter much. When I have modeled this with someone playing the same tees and course, one good round, or return to form, will immediately reduce the handicap by some amount.
