I agree with you doublesuited. I hit a few slices with S&T; and realized I didn't tilt properly. The tilt is going to feel much different than a weight shift, although different at first it's a very easy move to make. I've used the benchmark of trying to get my hands in behind my shoulder like Baddeley does on his swingvision sequence. For me this takes all the complication about my backswing. Put the club behind my right shoulder and it's locked into the right position. If the tilt is correct then explode with the hips and lower body and watch the ball go. It flies so straight with this swing it's incredible.

I'm not even remotely close to being in the position to offer a real experienced opinion, since I've only started golf 3 months ago... but as a new student of golf i have had the perfect chance to try both swing methods from a completely blank state. Meaning, I had no ingrained habits and muscle memory to hamper with learning either style. In my opinion it was easier for me and more simpler to learn the ST&T;, and more error free too! With the conventional swing, I'd get fat shots maybe 50-60% of the time, as well as horrible shanks and slices as all newbies do. With ST&T; i hit most my shots clean and crisp with the same amount of practice. I do get slices and even some hooks as well, but a good deal more straight shots than the conventional way!

So, in this newbie's eyes, ST&T; seems to be the easier ( not necessarily better ) method to learn. More fun too, since I'm hitting the golf ball better than the conventional way. Well... that was my 2 cents and I hope it didn't offend or seem rude to any of you experienced players.

That's a good post osean79. Good point about S&T; being easier to use, in golf I define easy in a couple ways. Easier to get good results, Easier to repeat the movement.

I like how people will carve up Stack & Tilt because Baddeley didn't play well in a final round paired with Tiger. That viewpoint isn't valid in arguing the validity of Stack and Tilt. Nobody has said Stack and Tilt is a miracle swing and you'll shoot 59's every day of the week, what people are saying is that the swing is easier to use, especially for amateurs, due to it's repeatability and straight shots. I think the icing on the cake for Stack and Tilt is that Tour Pros have switched to it and are able to get good results at the highest level of the game.

I'm also the kind of guy that is an early adopter of technology or open to doing things in a different way. I had some early reservations because the move does contradict the main swing theory being used on Tour and by amateurs. After using it for a short time I realized the swing was going to be a good solution for my consistency issues. I was even ready to accept lower distances to get more accuracy, but even that didn't happen. It feels so good when something exceeds expectations, golf so rarely does that.

    • Day 132: 5/7/24 Full Speed Spectrum Training session 8/24. 7th training program overall.    Another slow session but 4 mph faster than my last session, which was my slowest ever. Going to the doctor on Friday to check on pulled neck muscle.
    • Day 26: Did full swing practice after work. First 15 balls were working on top of the backswing feel, and then tried to incorporate transition feel into the next 15 balls. A's, although this will be my last season of being a fan as they leave for Las Vegas (by way of Sacramento for a few seasons). Hard to see myself rooting for the Giants, but if that's the only MLB in the Bay Area, I guess I might get on board.
    • My two cents? Don't. As a beginner that's interested in learning about the golf swing, you'll find yourself consuming a lot of information, most of which isn't even relevant to your own swing. You need to learn you can't think your way to a good golf swing. Focus on the one thing that you're working on and doing that on every swing, come what may. And remember, mishits happen.
    • Day 6 (7 May 24) - More work in the backyard focused on tempo in addition to setup.  Worked with 6 and 7 irons hitting hard foam balls - used the old MacGregor irons to mix it up a little.
    • No! lol. But they have to be in the right sequence to play mid-handicap golf or little better. Mostly. And even in that there is range/margin for error in the motions and positions that most normal humans can handle. It helps if you have a decent idea of how a golf club moves around the body like you would any other equipment sports (baseball and hockey might be the closest) After all, fairways are 40 yards wide. Don't overthink it. Be diligent in getting basics right. I will concede that it is harder than it sounds but it certainly is not exact angle/exact position/exact degree of bend/exact speed/exact facial expression, etc, every.... single.... time or the result is horrible death.
