After stumbling across one positive review after another I decided to go all in and buy it without a test drive. At $129 it's not much of a gamble. So I grabbed one off the rack, paid for it and headed to the course. Immediately I noticed it felt and looked different, a little more substantial looking at address than my old beat up PING G5 3w and certainly more balanced. Ball on tee, a practice swing and bam out it went. Instantly I knew I mishit it, off the toe and I was expecting all sorts of bad to happen. To my surprise the ball held it's line, a little to the right but in play. Fairway #1 has a few big mounds to the right before it opens up on the other side so I couldn't see where it landed. I roll up and holy smokes the ball was in the first cut just off the fairway with about 160y to the green. Impressive for a mishit, about 241y from the tee. Heck I've hit somewhat solid driver's from that box that flew just a bit further.

Anyway after finishing 9 holes I was astounded with the performance. Keep in mind I've been playing G5's so old technology. The Amp is long, forgiving and feels really good throughout the swing. I couldn't hit a bad shot with the thing. We have a pesky somewhat long, uphill par 4 at 449y. I have trouble hitting the fairway and it's rare I have a legit 2nd shot to hit the green. After popping it up and to the right off the tee, ball too high I gave it a whack out of the rough with the ball above my feet and landed it on the back of the green. I don't think I've hit that GIR this year. The 317y par 4, landed the ball about 40y in front of the green.

The Amp performed like a driver from the tee and like the best hybrid I've hit from the rough. In fact I won't be going back for the matching driver until I've finished revamping the rest of my clubs. May not even buy the Amp driver in favor of going with the Amp hybrids or possibly the Amp 5w. I'm done with the PING's and I stepped back in time to play my Armour 845s Silver Scot's. Paired those up with some Cleveland CG 15 wedges and noticed improved iron play but that's another thread.

    • Ok, I'm trying to find a feel to hit a consistent ball flight (irons).  My current predicament.  1. I try to do the arms down stuff better, with the club feeling like it is way behind me more. It's just a cluster of results. Most of the time, I can't get any speed on the swing. If I get my arms down faster, I just throw them out.  2. I focus all my attention on turning better. Pushing off with my left leg and getting my right side through better. On the DTL view, this doesn't produce anywhere close where the hands and club should be. The result is usually ball first contact, lower ball flight, more centered contact.  At this point, I am going with option 2. Stop thinking about what the hands do. Just make a shorter backswing, keep it wide, turn through. Somehow, the club head finds the ball. My focus is so much on just making sure I turn, it's like, "Oh, that contact was better.... Oh, that bell flight looks playable." If not, I will just be practicing my entire summer.
    • Nope, they spent too much money. They are in over 28 million on the football roster and related NIL compensation at this point. Boosters associated with any Texas college football team has HUGE sway. The AD is between a rock and a hard place. They put a lot of money into Sorsby, at the chance of winning a NC this year. If you move on, you basically wasted a lot.  This is why Ohio State wants 3 QB's they feel can start. That is why the backups the past 5 years at some point transfer. Texas Tech has no backup near the quality of Sorsby. If they move on, they are screwed for 2026.
    • Maybe there's something I still don't understand about the situation. Wouldn't Texas Tech do itself a favor to move on from Sorsby at this point?
    • Day 281 6-10 Full swing, fast, getting low point ahead of "towel".  Working on flow during this seems to help.
