Here's an article from the medical literature that explains how the golf swing affects your lower back. It's technical in spots, but overall not that hard to understand. It helps to have a picture of the spine and associated musculature beside you as you read so you can see what is being talked about.

The reference list points you to more specific studies if you wish to read them. Some are available free at PubMed.gov.

My short response is "listen to your body". This is a really good article, and I am swinging with a more "classical" swing approach. I don't actually lift the heel up, but I use a stack and tilt mechanism bending the lead knee. The body tilts a bit, but naturally. Hitting 400 to 600 balls a day really teaches you the right way to hit. Weight loss therapy, I'm not going pro. Thanks for posting this.
