I was thinking about getting an R11s 5 wood, but I don't know if I need to get fit for it. This club has lots of adjustability, so why should I pay extra to get fit?

I already know my shaft flex because I hit my regular flex fairway wood great and I am standard shaft length. Also, doesn't the r11s wood come with a booklet that helps you get the right setting?

The R11S driver comes with a book, not sure about the fairway woods. The book tells you how to adjust and what the adjustment are. It does not tell help you find your settings.

I play the R11S driver and was thinking of purchasing the R11S 5 wood. I found that I hit the RBS Tour 5 wood much better and farther. You might want to hit this as well. Also, not sure where you're located, but I have a PGA Superstore in my area and they will fit the R11S to you, no need to pay for a fitting.

I didn't. I'm pretty common sensical when it comes to this kind of stuff. I started with it set neutral and hit some balls. Set it to where I thought I needed it and played. After that I went to the limits of it's settings and tried it every which way. Came back to where I originally set it. I never have messed with the weights because, well I don't have any and never seen any for sale anywhere.

i think most people are standard loft/lie/grip just because most golfers are standard in size/swing speeds.  if you are average height/weight, you probably don't *need* to be fit.  but if you're above/below average in height/weight, you probably need to get fitted.  i'm 6'5", 190lbs and i have 1" extensions, upright 2 degrees, and i have larger grips than standard.  it makes a big difference in my game compared to when i hit all standard clubs.

www.ping.com has a pretty good online fitting system that would give you an idea if you are standard or not.  i did ping's online fitting and got fit by an actual fitter with the same results.  it's a decent starting point at least, and the info they give you can be used with any club.

if you're going to spend $500+ on clubs, i think it's worth getting fitted since if you don't hit them well and the reason is they aren't fitted, you'll just find yourself selling those clubs and starting over and spending more.  most fitters will refund the price of fitting if you buy the clubs through them.  if you're buying used, go to golfsmith or something and get fitted, then buy a wedge or driver or some other cheap club to get your refund on the fitting.

    • Thank you.  I'll cross it off the list since it isn't going to achieve what I want.
    • While it does turn out that both Tiger and Phil are less squeaky clean than I previously believed, I don't think golf quite has the worst in professional sports.  Or maybe they're better at image management.   Obviously I'm not fond of Phil's issue we're discussing in this thread (or his involvement with LIV) or Tiger's choices of how to drive.  I used to really like Dustin Johnson and, even before the LIV situation, we started to hear rumors that he bought more snow than Seward, although I don't think those stories were ever substantiated.  Meanwhile, I did think of Anthony Kim as the "good, bad boy" of the tour for a while fifteen years ago because of his party persona -- and if it turns out the worst he did was show up hung over to play (barring what one thinks of LIV), that's pretty good.  And I'm still happy he found a way to get his life clean. If we contrast that with some other sports I enjoy, I'm sure we could find a nice long list of NFL players that, at one point in my life, I was quite fond of, we get far worse disappointments (to put it mildly).
    • Answering that properly would land me in hot water, so I'm not going to. I don't think that many people would do that. I think that in certain circumstances many people would be willing to overlook someone doing that. But I was really referring to what I assumed was Tiger's transgressions (cheating on his wife) not Phil's.
    • No! Is a large part of the human population selfish, apathetic and cuts corners in the name of self-preservation 'more than they would like to admit', yes. Degenerate, scum, etc?.. no!! Most humans/men would not grope a woman like Phil is accused of doing (I think he absolutely did). That is scum. I mean what % of men do you think would do that? Seriously??
