Thinking about doing this scramble on Friday after Thanksgiving. It will be my first one but i was just wondering a few things first. How is the pressure of a scramble normally? I want there to be pressure because i need to get the feel of tournament atmosphere but at the same time i want to have fun. Also, do you normally get to pick your partner? Any tips or advice someone might have for another golfer entering their first scramble or tournament? Thanks

With a 2 man scramble, the only pressure will be if the first guy screws up his shot . Whether or not you get to pick your partners would be a better question for the tournament organizer. When we get to pick our partners we sign up together.

ok so basically we both tee off then play the best ball, alternating shots?

scramble is usually - best drive, then you both hit from the same spot, choosing the best spot each time until the ball is holed. I havent played a scramble in years (we did away with the 2 or 3 we used to have a year) - but in a 2 man, I always believed in the first guy hitting the safe shot and if effective, let the 2nd one try for a hero shot. (obviously reversed if the first guy screws up)

They can be fun if you dont take it seriously - if people get to pick their partners expect a ridiculous score to win. At least with random pairings there is a chance of honesty in a 2 man format.

yea thats also true. im sure there are guys who play together all the time with low handicaps that can usually come in and " run " the tourney. Im sure handicaps play a factor though. do they usually take average of both handicaps divided by two?

It can vary - first they average the handicaps and then take a percentage of that number - i have seen anywhere from 50-100%
