Whats the conditions for taking a free drop for a plugged ball?
Especially in a bunker?

You can only take a free drop if it's in a closely mown area "through the green" meaning the tee box, the fairway, and the green, basically. (You can clean the ball in this case, also.)

Your only option with a buried lie otherwise is to either take an unplayable or attempt to hack it out.

in the rules i looked up 'embedded ball', it says through the green + in a bunker a free drop is allowed.

No, that's wrong, and I find it annoying that you ask a question then argue with someone who gives you the correct answer. It says:

A ball embedded in its own pitch-mark in the ground in any closely mown area through the green may be lifted, cleaned and dropped, without penalty, as near as possible to the spot where it lay but not nearer the hole. The ball when dropped must first strike a part of the course through the green.“Closely mown area” means any area of the course, including paths through the rough, cut to fairway height or less.

Then:

“Through the green’’ is the whole area of the course except: a. The teeing ground and putting green of the hole being played; and b. All hazards on the course.

Of course, those are USGA rules. You'll want to find the equivalent R&A; rules since you're in Ireland.

cheers, now that i re-read the book yeah was wrong sorry bout that.
Misread the rule.No need to deduct reputation,i was honestly incorrect and was not argueing just stating my findings which were wrong.
