How do you overcome impulse shopping and an obsession with the newest technologies?

My bag is pretty nice and things work pretty well for me, I've been having issues with the long stick recently but its still manageable. With everything in the bag working for me I still scour ebay and tgw.com every night thinking about something "I just have to have..." I just have this attraction to the latest and best technology on the market, is this a product of my generation?

is this common?

I have the same problem. I'm always looking at new drivers and putters even though I have two of the best on the market. Haha.

As for me, who is perpetually broke, I set goals. I put aside a few bucks every month/paycheck and will get something at the beginning of the new seasaon. That way I can shop and demo the new and different products that have come to market and I will have the previous season to see where I need help. Setting a goal will help you focus and help curtail the need for instant gratification.

Just a few thoughts ...

i feel ya man, i have replaced almost everything in my bag....and my bag too. everything but my fairwoods and im gonna replace those before to long. im tryin to wait til next season but im sure ill find a great deal on something before then. i dont feel so bad about spending the money cause i usually find great bargains and im tryin to build my dad a set from my old stuff so he can start playing when he retires. he got me my first set out of the blue so im gonna try to do the same thing to him.

I admit that I am pretty much exactly the same way as you all. I just cannot stop the looksies, and most of the time I seem to find that one thing that I could really use.

Last time I went I ended up trading off my 58* Nike wedge for a 56* Taylor Made wedge, I'm going back to the 53, 56, and 60*. I was getting tired of having that 90 yard shot that just happened to fall right between my 53 and 58's.

Don't worry though, as long as it doesn't force you into the poor house I think you're safe. I'm sure there is a 12-step program out there for this, along the same lines as AA huh?

I started playing golf my freshman year of college, 4 years ago... since that time I am now on my 3rd set of irons, 2nd driver, 3rd putter, 2nd set of wedges, and all of my fairway woods and hybrids have changed... its an obsession

the only nice thing now is my current set of irons was completely fitted and customized for me and I couldn't be happier with them. For some reason I have gained a great deal of distance with the 735's over the last month. My usual 150 club was an 8 iron and now I am floating between a 9iron and PW depending on pin locations... I have no idea where the extra juice is coming from, but it feels real nice...

adding to my previous note I guess all the club changes came from pure ignorance. I had no introduction to this great game, I started playing with my freshman year roommates... so I didn't have a dad or a grandfather there helping me with the now obvious golf issues. I fell into a lot of salesmans grips.. I helped their spiffs and not my game. My first set of irons had the wrong shafts, it was almost a better deal to get a new set than reshaft the set... I was lucky that I worked at a local golf store... using the Taylomade TMAG program to pick up a set of cheap OS's... they worked for a while but I progressed out them to the point where the offset was killing my scores. That's where I got to the 735's... for a while I doubted myself, thinking maybe I bought into a club a little beyond my level. Now my iron game is the strongest part of my game, now only that dredded driver?
